Ugh… that sucks… I hope that the voters in Brazil can manage to keep the right wing out of power, especially given what Bolsonaro tried to pull a few years ago.
Although economic indicators have improved a lot since the last governments, such as inflation, unemployment and gross domestic product, the increase in taxes, the resurgence of violence and the right-wing and populist campaign that has won the hearts and minds of most of the people, creates a very bad image of the government.
Here is an example of what we read in local newspapers
Montenegrin PM proposes country-wide gun ban after 12 die in shooting spree
At least 12 people killed, including two children, as an armed man went on a shooting rampage after a bar brawl on Wednesday in the central Montenegrin city of Cetinje.
This brought to mind the lyrics to a song we used to sing in music class back in the 5th or 6th grade.
Freedom isn’t free.
You gotta pay the price, you gotta sacrifice, for your liberty.
musk’s ketamine habit(?) seems to be motivating all sorts of short-sighted annoying of would-be tyrants. now he’s going after the far right leadership in Britain - we may be sure of one thing: not for any good reason.
Elon Musk turns on Nigel Farage and calls for new leader of Reform
It’s unclear what prompted Musk to post message on X saying Farage ‘doesn’t have what it takes’ to be Reform UK’s leader
Elon Musk has said Nigel Farage “doesn’t have what it takes” to be Reform UK’s leader, hours after Farage refused to condemn the billionaire businessman for his inflammatory comments about Keir Starmer and Jess Phillips.
In a surprise intervention, less than three weeks after Musk met Farage at Donald Trump’s Florida home amid reports he could donate $100m (£80m) to Reform, Musk used X, the social media platform he owns, to say: “The Reform party needs a new leader. Farage doesn’t have what it takes.”
It was not clear what prompted Musk, who has tweeted numerous times recently about UK politics, to change his mind about the Reform leader.
But Farage indicated it could have been due to disagreement about Tommy Robinson, the jailed far-right anti-Islam agitator whom Musk has characterised as a political prisoner, but whom Farage condemns.
“Well, this is a surprise!” Farage wrote on X after Musk’s tweet. “Elon is a remarkable individual but on this I am afraid I disagree. My view remains that Tommy Robinson is not right for Reform and I never sell out my principles.”
…
(now i’ve got to vaguely wonder why farage doesn’t like someone who’s anti-Islam -sigh-)
well here’s hoping that musk next visits some high-rise in Russia from where he’ll discredit putin
Preview no worky, but Trudeau is resigning.
Seems like bad timing if true. I suppose he didn’t want to deal with Trump, but now someone else will have to be found quickly.
He has time for you now Melania.
Oh well, worst case Poilievre becomes Prime Minister and it saves Trump the trouble of invading Canada to make it GrEaT aGaIn.
I think the best we can hope for is a minority Poilievre government, but they’re headed for a landslide majority I’m afraid. I think that Trudeau, like Biden, left his resignation too late and this will hamstring his successor, although whoever they pick as party leader will hopefully have a few more months than Harris did to make some headway with voters.
The party leader usually resigns after a failed election, not before, but this is where we are.
He finally understands how deeply he’s disliked, and this gives his successor a fighting chance at making some gains against the Conservatives. At the very, very best, they might be able to form a coalition government with the NDP, but that’s extremely unlikely. I think all that they can hope for is to retain official party status.
I just don’t understand why the entire planet seems to be embracing fascism. It’s depressing and frightening.
The whole planet and all our stupid governments have gone even more stupid…
