Marine Le Pen may have lost her last chance to sit in the ÉlysĂ©e Palace. Found guilty of the misappropriation of public funds by the Paris Criminal Court on Monday 31 March, in the affair of the Parliamentary Assistants of the Front National (FN), the MP for Pas-de-Calais was sentenced to a penalty of four years imprisonment with two years minimum, parole with an ankle bracelet, €100,000 fine, and five years of ineligibility (to be elected to public office). In accordance with the prosecutor’s submissions, issued on the 13 November 2024, this last sentence carries provisional execution, which the elected official feared above all else.

So: four years prison, two years minimum, remainder (if paroled) to be served with GPS ankle bracelet, €100k fine (which I believe is a personal fine, no passing it off to the party), and five years ineligibility of holding public office, that last effective immediately: no holding it off until the appeals are exhausted.

Do you think she will find her Medvedev who runs in 2027 and goes away quietly once she is ready to return?

This isn’t just because we are angry about the tariffs and the 51st state nonsense; this is to help strengthen our economy in the face of the tariffs and to reduce reliance on the U.S. So punishment is not the whole story.

That’s legitimate, honestly Canada should’ve been doing that regardless but if spite against Trump is what it takes then it is what it is.

A cult following as well, like Trump?

I realize cult experts say the Trump thing doesn’t meet all the qualifications of a cult, but I’m a simple person using the duck test. When people disregard their own visual input because someone says something that contradicts, and also build shrines and wear their image around all the time
I mean, you’re a pair of Nike shoes and a Kool-Aid away as far as I’m concerned.

The proportion of eligible foreign voters is increasing in Finland with every local election, but voter turnout lags far behind, says Hufvudstadsbladet, citing a study by the Migration Institute.

Most foreigners in Finland are entitled to vote, but few generally bother, and that’s a growing democracy problem, according to HBL.

The last time out, in 2021, eight percent of the population had an immigrant background, compared to only three percent of the candidates and just 0.8 percent of those elected into local councils.

Many foreigners don’t know they’re eligible to vote, according to foreign background candidates talking to the daily.

“I have met at least 200 people who didn’t know they had the right to vote. They don’t watch Yle, they don’t attend election debates. I try to explain to them, also on TikTok, that they have to vote if they want to bring about change,” explained Georgiana Forsang, a Centre Party candidate in Vantaa.
