He is increasingly isolated. Only the elderly still support him. Other names have been suggested as replacements, since his candidacy was completely artificial from the begining, as it was a success once, they think It could be repeated. The problem is that even with the media campaign against the Lula government, the sheer incompetence of the Lula government itself and the stigma of corruption that stuck like superglue to his image, Mr. Lula still has a lot of charisma and the right and the far right in Brazil still do not have a name capable of competing for the presidency.
To make matters worse, he and perhaps his children could be arrested on various charges such as conspiracy, sedition, corruption, etc. He is terrified of going to jail, the idea of being a martyr for the cause never even crosses his mind. That’s why they really, really want a political amnesty. He will also not be able to run for any public office until 2032, but the national press still asks him every little thing and puts his name in polls for the 2026 elections.
Thus, according to the current Brazilian political scene, for the extreme right, it is better to invest in a Congress more aligned with its power project, since the executive branch of the government can be hampered by the legislative branch.

Oh, they kinda do this every time they buy foreign fighter jets… There was something similar with the Dasault Mirage back then.
Maybe they shouldn’t have given up on developing their own jets. (One of the abandoned programmes sort of ended up as the Gates Lear Jet, though. But that’s another story.)
