Nope. I don’t have an official diagnosis of anxiety (or anything else mental health related).
I promised myself that if things get bad enough I will get help. So far this is manageable.

Great to hear that you’ve got some effective strategies. Cutting down on caffeine helps a lot with my anxiety, and with my sleep (the lack of which just induces for me more anxiety, dread, depression, etc.). One cup of something caffeinated early in the morning, and for now, that’s it. Oh, and no drinkie-poos in the evenings anymore either Wxcept maybe a weekend night); alcohol also usually fucks with my sleep.
But we also have evidence that humanity can be good.
To-day, a lot of people dismiss others as useless eaters. But even in the Paleolithic, we can tell that a lot of people cared for other people, children and adults, who had severe diseases and/or injuries. Some could not even chew their food. The Old Man of la Chappelle may be the most famous. Their communities had a thinner margin of survival, and less medical knowledge, and they did not regard these people as useless eaters.
Reminds me…
I think a lot of the problems of alienation, individualism, and all that really does stem from how capitalism shapes society to be that way. As long as we’re buying into narrative to some degree that how capitalism shapes us is just based on our nature, and that we can’t escape us being cruel assholes as the normative human nature… but as you note, history tells us a very different story. Even in the modern world, as Mr. Rogers reminded us, there are always helpers. Even right now, in these dark days, there are helpers.
Your essay is beautifully written!
I’m not denying the goodness of humanity, or even saying that asshole humans are a majority. But they’ve got enough power to ruin things for the rest of us faster than we can fix them. On an infinite timeline, maybe we could even overcome that eventually (probably by ending capitalism, which I agree is a huge factor). On a ticking clock where we needed to be making ten times the progress we are now, decades ago, in order to stand a chance of survival, not so much. Climate change isn’t going to wait for us.
Yeah, but then, we’ll get what we deserve. Just because some of humanity did everything right doesn’t mean the entire planet gets a free do-over. We break it, it’s broken, that’s on us as a whole. And then, other life forms will grow to dominate instead.
“an ordinary extraordinary person bravely doing your best”
There, fixed that for you.
Thanks. It’s been tough lately. The indifference of most people almost hurts worse than the harm caused by fascists.
My heart breaks for every transgender person in the US. I’m scared for us all, but especially you and other people who aren’t cisgender
This should not be happening
I’m so sorry. I wish I could make everything better for you and make things miserable for fascists.
And fuck the fascists.
Just got fired from my shitty job that paid ⅓ what I need to stay afloat, so… yea capitalism!
