Abortion Ban

Yet these are the guys who say you can’t have the government running healthcare because the government shouldn’t make Dr.'s decisions.

Fucking goddamn hypocrites. They are quite happy to make those decisions if it means punishing women.I don’t see how single payer could make it worse when they can pull stunts like this and the shit they’ve pulled around birth control.

Fuckers.

Meanwhile in Ontario…

I go past one of these clinics every day. Almost every day there are protesters across the street with their graphic signs and rosaries praying away. And they have a “spotter” down the street at the streetcar stop and they’ll approach anyone woman who gets off and heads towards the clinic. I take photos of them every time. They really hate that.

AND we’re pushing for a ban on the graphic signs they use!

Also, access to cheap or free birth control helps.

Every single pregnancy should be planned and wanted.

Or at least wanted.

Damn right.

It always confuses me that this is a controversial view, but it is. At least some of the pro-life/anti-choicers are also anti-birth control and for abstinence only sex ed, despite both leading to more unwanted pregnancies and more abortions.

it’s due to the “pro-life/forced-birthers” only caring about controlling women. They don’t care about the women or the babies.

It’s just occured to me that this may be related to Australian history.

Sectarian strife in Australia used to be as bad as in Ireland, for similar reasons. Working class Irish Catholic convicts vs upper class English Protestant settlers.

However, during the Cold War, they called a truce. Conservative Catholics and Protestants united against socialism.

Before then, Australian sermons were heavily laced with aggressively antagonistic sectarianism. The other side weren’t just competing Christians, they were heretics inspired by demonic evil.

Those sermons became a bit awkward post-alliance, so they were quietly dropped. And they weren’t replaced with anything; now, the factions maintain their alliance by politely avoiding discussion of their historical theological differences.

That’s ironic, given the origins of Christianity:

They gave up on that as soon as the Church acquired significant land holdings.

If anyone gets the chance, read A World Lit Only By Fire by William Manchester. Very eye opening book. The Reformation was definitely needed, because the Catholic Church was completely corrupt and was stealing from poor villagers (by way of indulgences) so they could have orgies in the Vatican 25/8. I definitely have a renewed appreciation for Martin Luther, who basically became an outlaw for this cause but was far from the only one.

Also, strangely enough, because the Mass was in Latin and none of the common people understood Latin, the people retained their pagan beliefs because they didn’t understand Catholicism at all. I’ve known Latin American Catholics who were similar. Maybe thinking religion is one thing or the other is too simplistic… Maybe they all blend together at some point.

Catholicism on a lot of levels was never about religion, but power. That’s why there’s so many rules.

Sadly, regular folk didn’t quite retain their pagan beliefs. The powers that be made sure of that.

Women’s lives are not even worth saving? Well, at least they’re saying it out loud now, where everyone can hear. Can’t say I’m surprised, just disgusted.
