@RAvery, I’ve seen both DOs and MDs, and no problems with either one. Though I’ve noticed that DOs tend to use surgery as a last resort. They’re more about treating the whole person, but not in a GOOP sort of way. Lifestyle and diet changes in order to help treat patients are involved, too.
I’ve never had one try to manipulate my muscles so as to make my hot flashes disappear, for example.
Yes. I had a wonderful DO. At the time I was interested in becoming an Ob/Gyn so I spoke with him about his training. It’s as thorough and as complete as the training for an MD with some more flexible career options for them.
I’m glad to hear that. I only had it once about 12 years ago, but as I recall it helped. It made the whole experience seem like a dream happening to someone else.
The dentist I usually go to does not use it. He seemed puzzled why I would want it. The thought of novocaine needles in my gums…
When I was young I had some bad experiences at the dentist. So after that for years I always got the nitrous oxide.
It was really nice. Just drifting, imagining explorers in a cave hunting for treasure or something.
Then, I don’t know why, one time I just didn’t get it. Must’ve forgotten to ask for it, or had a new dentist that didn’t ask me, or something like that. And it was fine. And since then I haven’t bothered with it and have been ok.
But it was really helpful when I had that anxiety. And before I got a really good dentist that I felt comfortable with.
I always ask for it with fillings. My anxiety is pretty well controlled these days, it just makes the experience less crappy. I like audio fiction on the headphones, so I can go be somewhere else for a while, nitrous eases that for sure.
