@IronEdithKidd, you’re not far from there, are you?

Chelsea’s just far enough away that I’ve never skated at their rink (about 20 miles). I know several people who live there, but we don’t visit often. It’s too white, as in literally only white people live there. It’s super weird.

Ewww. that does sound creepy. But still, their idea for moving the books is great.

Agreed! I could see the same thing happen in Ann Arbor should circumstances warrant it. The crowd would actually look like America, though.

I noticed that as I watched the video. Trying to find one person in that chain of book passers came to overshadow for me the great idea of moving a bookstore that way. :hushed:

You weren’t missing any non-white faces. There weren’t any.

Ugh. Sounds like a sundown town.

I could see it happening in one of the Grosse Pointes as well. Surprisingly enough, GP Woods has a Black population of 7 percent, half the national percentage. But it’s even lower in the other four.

Sounds charming. In a horror movie kind of way.

I think 4 of them are still villages. I know there’s a lot of mansions there that would be great for horror-movie settings.

When I lived there, the only racists worse than the rich ones in the Grosse Pointes were the less rich ones.

ETA
Grosse Pointe (AKA the “City” of/GP “City”) is all of one square mile.

Reading these comments reminds me of a Bosom Buddies episode where they go to a reunion. Their friend Isabelle is repeatedly mistaken for the only black girl in their high school class. :grimacing: When she asked about it, one of them said something like, “Well, if you shake Shaker Heights, not many black people fall out.” Looks like things have changed since then!
