Today is the 90th anniversary of Social Security!!! A great program that saved the lives of countless seniors, people with disabilities and kids whose parents died. Celebrate the achievement and work to improve it and other needed social infrastructure. I just made up that term - I think it’s a good one.
Yes, needs to ‘go viral’, as the kids say.
I like it. It makes a good update from the “social safety net.” Safety nets in circuses and such kinda worked but kinda didn’t. People were pretty mangled by safety nets, even if the net saved their lives. We should be working towards a social feather bed rather than a “safety” net.
And it sounds better than “giant inflatable crash pad”
or “professional stunt pad”
or “fully custom fall protection” … but fwiw it’s unlikely I’ll ever get to see any of that money. My retirement age is nearly the same exact window that social security monies will be fully drained.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I love that prior to the name change, Berlin graffiti artists would simply add an Umlaut to the “o”, changing it to “Möhrenstrasse”: “Carrots Street”
A possible hooray (presumably there’ll be an appeal):
