Bad Science

Apparently this might have been some kind of achievement? A couple things have mentioned that being able to edit as many genes as they did was something new. It’s really hard to judge because everything is buried under the lie about bringing back extinct species, because everything is about hype for investors rather than real science.

are there just a bunch of science-types who just desperately want to create stuff they saw in sci-fi films, but know that the actual technology isn’t there (and might not ever get there), so they like to pretend that it is already? In addition to this jurassic fail, the example of AI not being remotely what we saw in films and TV over the years…

That was the exact read on the “wooly mice.” Never had that many loci been edited precisely enough to be viable. But that was only going to excite nerds. To raise cash, you need to mske it sound like Pleistocene Park. The science was impressive, it’s the hype that irks me. This is a modified puppy, not a frickin’ dire wolf.
