Sorry, Myf. When you rummage around in Mr. Collins’ attic, some is bound to rub off.

Other,

I meant “Classical Grace” as a description of style. Think of Pindar and Praxiteles.

You are of course correct that Homer was preserved in Archaic Greek, primarily Ionic and Aeolic .

I do appreciate your studious attention to details.

Now if only Zero would join our discussions.

On a rooftop in the warehouse district, the two nemeses finally confront each other on this rain-slicked night.

Oh, it’s going to go like that, is it?

At least it’ll be over quickly.

Dear Κανένας

May I call you that? For your name isn’t “Zero Demos” or “Patrick Bateman” anymore than a Ptolemaic Greek like me is named “Mr Colliins.”

You tell a delightful tale of how you came to the awareness that you were immortal. It is an engaging and sympathetic tale:

If you know your prehistory, you’ll know that Santorini wasn’t a terribly great place to be 3500 years ago. Getting a volcano dropped on my head while I was out fishing with my brother was a bit of a shock. Waking up buried in lava was an even bigger one. Took (literally) lifetimes to dig myself out. I’ve had a bit of an issue with confined spaces ever since.

I’ve let this stand, but now that we are only two, we owe our fellow fallen a bit more truth than that.

The Thera eruption, as you know from first hand experience, happened in phases.

The light tephra fall that occurred several months before the main eruption alerted the population (one did not need to be a priest to understand such a clear message from the Gods) and prompted a (relatively) orderly evacuation. Unlike Pompeii, no evidence of human remains nor any human artifacts have been found (save one figurine hidden under a floor).

The first major eruption phase was primarily pumice ash. Lava, the heart of your tale, only becomes prominent with the the second and third major eruption phases.

Κανένας you claim you and your brother were present as mere “simple fishermen.”

long after the Gods had clearly revealed their intent
after everyone else had fled
sailing through a boiling moonscape.

While you’re spinning tales, why don’t you try to sell me a bridge, too?

You confessed the truth to me long ago. I carry that confession with me still.

I encourage you, @daneel, to put down your millennial-old burden and share your story.

Or would you rather I tell it?

Mr Collins FULL
Yours in Truth,

“Mr. Collins”

Oh surely, the old gods needed just one more night.

Few of us remember, now, what it was like before the Kollignsrein.

Old gods, do you remember?

Don’t get them started. They’ll never stop. Believe me.

Bon to Hell

Hey Zero! Let’s play him this one!

On the day I was born the rain fell down
There was trouble brewin’ in my home town
It was the seventh day I was the seventh son
And it scared the hell out of every one
They said stop
I said go
They said fast
I said slow
They said yes
I said no
I do the bad boy boogie

Bein’ a bad boy ain’t that bad
I had me more dirty women than most men ever had
All you women come along with me
And I’ll show how good a bad boy can be
I said right
And they said left
I said east
And they said west
I said up
And they said down
I do the bad boy boogie
All over town

I wouldn’t tell you no story
Tell you no lie
I was born to love till the day I die
I just line em up
And I knock em down
And they all came a runnin’ when the word got around
Just keep runnin’
I said up
They said down
They said straight
I said round
They said lost
I said found
I said free
They said bound
Bad boy boogie
Do the bad boy
Bad boy boogie
Bad boy boogie

The is but the start, Demos.

Fortune turned last time we met, too.

I understand how you perfectly matched my stance the first two rounds, but this time around? whoa.
