For anyone not aware of Chip and Joanna Gaines, they are a Texas couple who built a big brand on HGTV from doing home renovations. Theyâre also Christians and have a bunch of kids, and are very wholesome. So apparently, Christian Nationalists assumed they were like them. They are hosting a new reality show where families are living like itâs in the 1880s or something. I donât know, itâs not important. But one of the families are a gay couple and their kids, and the Christian Nationalists lost their fucking minds. In response, Chip Gaines tweeted this:
I donât share his religious beliefs, but he sounds like a Pedro to me.
Good for him. I also have to say, I didnât expect this. I initially liked their original show when it first aired, but I also agreed with the criticism that their show drew by not including same sex couples.
Yeah, I watched a video about this whole âcontroversyâ, and I think I like Gaines less after watching it. Based on the church the Gainesâs attend, itâs pretty likely that they personally believe being gay is sinful behavior. That being said, thatâs fine. People can believe what they want about all kinds of things. When I have a problem is when they try to impose those beliefs on others or to discriminate against people because of them, and they have clearly chosen to not do that with respect to their business. They arenât allies, for sure, but they have consciously chosen to also not be enemies. I would rather they be allies, but given their home state and religion, not being enemies is progress.
Watched Freaky Tales yesterday.
In Pedroâs tale, at the diner he sees the punk girlâs spiked arm band and asks âwhoâs that for?â
The punks reply: âNazisâ
He nods approvingly. âAim for the neck.â
