Because Fuck You metric system

Would that be official city limits, or the Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area, which stretches from SE Wisconsin to NW Indiana?

Never have I been more convinced that actual metric measurements would help!

I was wondering the same myself.

Also wondering whether a Chicago-shaped iceberg would float

Kinda hard to draw with my finger on my phone.

Good question!

Maybe?

Still a pretty good attempt. I give it four stars.

Wouldn’t all icebergs float? I can’t imagine a shape that wouldn’t, since ice is lighter than water.

(Maybe one made from heavy water…?)

The extra heaviness of deuterium is just a little bit more than the extra lightness of ice, so yeah, in theory it would sink. It might be difficult to get enough material though.

Now we just need to scale it up…

Sweet, sweet heavy water…

I am most annoyed that I can’t find any stills from The Man From UNCLE episodes/movie - The Concrete Overcoat Affair/The Spy in the Green Hat - with Janet Leigh and Jack Palance, in which heavy heavy water ahem plays a part.

Nice! Now I know who to go to next time I get a random knitting question. I thought the answer was “about 5 mm” :person_facepalming:

yeah, there are some that… won’t say makes sense, but you cannot just assume. Like imperial screws are “gauge numbered” and you need a chart to know which size is which (when doing designs that use them). ISO screws have “diameter” in mm, and while they are taking over most of industrial designs… even in europe I sometimes need a gauge screw for woodworking.
