Wasn’t Zuck training for MMA at one point?
I think so, which is why Musk challenging him was so freaking funny.
This was the code name of an actual FBI investigation (and hence nickname for the associated scandal) that implicated Vincent A. “Buddy” Cianci, longtime mayor of Providence, RI, which ultimately led to the end of his (second) tenure as Mayor and him getting thrown into Federal lockup on corruption charges.
I guess we’ll never know…
I think he’s underestimating just how hopeless things seemed to voters before Harris replaced him. After his awful debate performance, a Trump victory felt inevitable. Harris actually inspired a few people and stood up to Trump for a couple minutes there, and gave everybody some hope. False hope, it turns out, but I don’t think “ancient, moderate white guy” would have squeezed out the votes he assumes it would have, even in the face of the racism and sexism that Harris suffered from.
And of course, if he truly felt this way, he could have just… not stepped aside in the first place? Yeah, he was being pressured to, but it was still his choice. Changing his mind when it’s too late anyway just makes it sound like he’s spitefully blaming Harris for the outcome.
ETA: I also don’t like the goddamn President encouraging the Democrats who learned all the wrong lessons from this election. There’s been so much talk of moving further right, sticking to old centrist white men and throwing vulnerable groups under the bus in future elections that as far as I’m concerned the Democrats have already lost the next election, if there ever is one. If they end up winning it’ll be in reaction to whatever horrors the Republicans inflict on us all, not because of any virtues of their own, and the USA’s moronic goldfish-brained voters will turn around and vote a Republican in again the next election after that.
Yeah, impossible to prove what would have happened in a counter factual scenario, but one thing we do know is that he wasn’t able to use his position and reputation to successfully get Harris elected. If anything, in the final weeks of the campaign there were times where it seemed like he was actively making things worse for her, like the fallout from his “garbage” gaffe.
Should that be ?
I’m just curious if Comer is just out and out lying, or if Woodward said something along those lines…
Or, if Woodward did, whether he was drunk at the time.
Could be. It seems if there was anything of substance that the GOP chair of the oversight committee would have made a fuss. Although the GOP is super careful about leveling baseless accusations in the interest of maintaining functional governance and bipartisanship. Hard to say.
Or what he meant by “corruption”, too?
Maybe he meant to say that Old Joe’s body is rotting?
Comer says he gave Woodward and Costa their interview, “then asked Woodward what he thought about my investigation. He replied that he thought Biden had obviously worked the system his entire political career, and that his son and both brothers had a troubled financial history. He predicted that my investigation ‘would either be bigger than Watergate or it would end up being a big nothing burger’.
“[Bob] Costas [sic] piped in,” Comer adds, “and said that everyone knew Joe Biden had always been cash-strapped and always tried to live beyond his means”, but the whole family was “very good ‘at covering its tracks’”.
Taking the Amtrak for years is living beyond his means?
Comer’s disdain for the press is evident throughout his book. So is vituperative abuse of fellow members of Congress. Fellow Republicans do not escape his wrath but he saves particular venom for a senior Democrat, Jamie Raskin of Maryland, who as the ranking member of the House oversight committee worked closely with Comer, the two men often presenting at least an appearance of good humor before the press.
As described in print by Comer, Raskin has a “warped partisan mind”; is “arrogant, usually dishonest”; is a “goon” and a “hoodlum”; talks to the press “with his trademark chest bowed out and head cocked back (much like what we of the Appalachian foothills call a banty rooster)”; and was guilty of telling “bald-faced lies” about an FBI document detailing a claim of wrongdoing at issue during Comer’s Biden investigations.
Yeah, his narrative seems suspect.
Comer is an asshole.
I’m sure Woodward will make some kind of response about this.
