BoingBoing is officially moving to substack in a few days. Feel free to grumble or opine!
I’ve also logged in have some thoughts about this:
I’m going to give the substack a try, but I’m not sure if I like the chat feature yet. I don’t know how it will cope with some of the megathreads we have created.
It kind of proves the point of having this place, because there was a little “remember we can perma-ban you” in the invite.
If the old site is being nuked, is there anyone else over there that we would want to invite to join our lifeboat, just in case we lose them forever?
I am not big on change. Like, at all. I went over to Substack to check out the new site and, just, no. Gonna let it work itself out a bit, but i am not feeling good about the migration at all.
Hey, can anyone with mod powers do something about @Tammi_2.0’s inability to log in? She’s tried and it’s not worked for her. And I think @KathyPartdeux might also be having issues logging in?
I(mspie500) took a social media break for a week and got to come back to this.
Yay! /s
I’ll stick around here and maybe show up in the substack chat.
@moderators - I think both @Tammi_2.0 and @KathyPartdeux are having issues logging in here? Can anyone help with that? Maybe talk to them over at the other place and help with whatever issue they are having?
I am now here under a new name.
I will not be going to Substack. Fuck that.
Glad to see you!!!
I don’t know… it feels like they just blew up the whole community with one dumb action.
Very much so. This is my last straw, I’m done.
The blind faith of the mostly-male users on the BBS that “This will be fine!” just reminds me of how little they give a shit about people that aren’t them. I won’t be wasting any energy on either a Fuck You or a warning.
I am Tammi’s complete lack of surprise, to be honest.
That may have been the point.
For real, though…
I was debating about whether to sign up for the sub stack Boing just to monitor, but keep the bulk of my activity here, but I just can’t see it. Even if my participation peripherally supports the RWNJ element over there, that would be too much.
No migration for me, then.
That’s pretty much my view.
I will not be bribed with a Lifetime Subscription to the Nazi bar we railed against these last few years.
How long is that for me anyway, three months?
I won’t miss hundreds of the other users. I would miss my Lounge family. Y’all kept me alive.
Currently in rural Ireland. Substack seems to suffer greatly from limited data, whereas this site loads just fine. Add that to the list of drawbacks. Also good to know that if the election goes sideways and I have to seriously consider moving home for my daughter’s sake.
I think I’ll avoid the Nazi bar. If they don’t feel the need for @Tammi_2.0 and @danimagoo and others then they don’t need me either.
Either “Don’t need” or “won’t miss.”
Feels the same either way, really, huh?
I appreciate it, though. Thanks
I haven’t managed to get the hang of the Substack thing, and I’m not sure I ever will.
I have a peculiar feeling that this cafe is going to get quite a bit busier in the near future.
Which is no terrible thing.
I tried to start a new thread here - a throwback to thne covers thread, but the video won’t load.
Hey, no biggie.
The one thing I will miss, though, is the HCR thread.
Milliefink, would you help us out here?
Ironically, HCR’s blog is hosted on Substack…
You can avoid subbing on Substack by getting her daily writings directly to your email.
Thanks Duke.
I’m chuckling at the irony.
Glad to hear it, but so sorry that the Great Substack Massacre has driven you out. Their loss, Elsewhere’s gain.
I would much rather be where I am wanted.
