BoingBoing move to substack

The feeling, not the duration of stay, just to be clear

well, I cannot speak for everyone but most people I talked with, argued with, disagreed with and laughed with seems to already have moved here. So except for the fact that this uses night mode instead of day mode theme… seems nothing much has changed.

Looking forward to talk, argue, disagree, laugh and be roasted again with you all

Oh shit, of course!

Thank you for that.

Yep. Named myself worm in 90s.

You can change that in your personal settings, if you like.

From my perspective, you’re right where you belong. How can we help you feel more welcome?

You’re right; I should have been more explicit in my message. Let me try again.

ā€œIf anyone has any objections to my inviting this person please DM me sometime soon so I can invite them before the BBBBS goes read-only.ā€

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess a lot of those ā€œnew subscribersā€ are those of us they gave free lifetime subscriptions to. I just checked the new site, and most stories have no likes and no comments. I saw only one with more than 5 comments. The level of engagement seems to be minimal. Maybe that’s what they wanted, although I can’t understand what the point of that would be. Oh, and one of the wonderful new posts is an interview by Thom Dunn with an AI chatbot version of Linda Lovelace. Yeah…I’m done with BB.

If you’re looking for a place to have a conversation with a bit more privacy, might I suggest #the-clubhouse?

Anyone with TL2 or above should be able to participate. The down side of that is that all of the newly created accounts are not yet TL2.

The other option would be to take it to a relatively massive PM, but that might be cumbersome and unwelcome by those that don’t want to participate.

No it will pass. I’m just autistic humanist or something so that’s just how my brain works…

Whaaaaa…?!

Sheesh, that’s horrible in more ways than I care to count. An effort to be edgy, I suppose. :grimacing:

Well, the Ada version became self aware and became … problematic…

Yeah I was surprised to see Thom Dunn attached to that. I thought he was better than that.

IDK… some of the new writers are… weird. Like… I cannot say for sure but basically if you told me that Popkin, Lee Keeler, Thom Dunn and Ellsworth Toohey are AI generated personas to fill the gaps between the real editors, I would believe you.

Thom Dunn isn’t new, and he’s a legit person.

Popkin’s been around a while as well, and seems to be a real person.

Oh, I’m sure all of them are!

Just saying that some of what they wrote lately is… weird, an reads wrong

And for some reason it raises all my red flags.

I’m 100% sure Ellsworth Toohey isn’t an actual person.

Yep. About as real as a character in an Ayn Rand novel.

You can change that, you know…
