Read this on BB literally ten minutes ago, along with a couple others in a similar vein.
When someone shows you who they are etc.
(I do love the series, mind).

so I was meaning to askā¦ for anonymizing is enough to send a PM to the admin or is there some kind of official protocol?
PM to orenwolf is my understanding.
Here it seems to be done backwards (is that a good way to describe it?): news is posted more or less in the appropriate thread. Possibly Untrue Science News, Musk taking over Twitter, Elections 2023-2025, Felonious Ex-President, and so on.
Is this kind of thing adequate, or should we do it BBās way? I look at the threads Iām interested and ignore those Iām not.
Edit for clarity
I PMed him for this very reason well over 24 hrs ago.
Iām still there, apparently.
But then heās probably busy AF.
I do not at all believe Ellsworth Toohey is a real person (or a person distinct from the other authors). I am firmly in the belief itās an alt account for Mark and/or an AI bot trained on Markās writing and fed other peopleās content from Reddit and Twitter.
Sadly or funnily, I spotted an SMBC which I found appropriate for the old place.
The character from The Foubtainhead?
Rob definitely has an account here. I donāt think anybody else has an account here. I seem recall back in the day the site used happymutants.space as its domain and Mark was asked for permission since he owned a trademark on that (which he granted). Itās not a stretch to assume that other BB authors are aware of this site. (Whether or not they remember/care is another story entirely, thoughā¦ Given BBās general apathy/disregard for the BBS community Iām going to guess they couldnāt care less.)
Yup. Iām only looking at the Substack thread and not much else these days. Still pondering whether I want to get anonymized or hold out some sliver of hope that things will return to the way they were. (Iām sure they wonātā¦)
Oh, that too. And totally on brand for Mark with his libertarian bent.
I noticed Sekhmet posting anonymization notices in the General Mod thread, so if Kenās backed up, maybe ask her? Or maybe tag @moderators in the DM so any community mod could step in?
Oh!
So, might they have a say in some day calling for its demise?
Again, going on hazy recollections here, but uncertainty around this was part of why the domain became elsewhere.cafe. Iām sure @LockeCJ can keep me honest here if I missed anything. Itās been a while.
Iāve always appreciated the mix. The evergreen topics (Bad Musk, SCOTUS, Election, etc.) I really appreciate having an omnibus thread on. But if itās a genuinely interesting article that warrants some extensive discussion itās nice to have a dedicated thread. I think the BBS arrived at this balance naturally through community growth plus the BB integration. But maybe individual posts/threads isnāt really a requirement?
I could well just be responding to the cheese moving, of course. Iām happy to feel this place out more before barging in and proposing major changes as a newcomer.
If we kept the happy mutants name, maybe. But we donāt use their trademark any more, weāre fully independent. So I donāt think they could ask us to close now.
Samesies. I think itās excitement at finding there is a place for the departed afterall but also that i get the impression this is more of a safe space and hopefully less susceptible to drive-by fascism.
I think the fact it is harder to find Elsewhere will help with that. A lot of the ickiest comments seemed to come from people entering the BBS from the front page 's rage bait.
I donāt recognise the echo chamber argument either, there were many instances of people having healthy, but respectful, disagreements with each other despite being essentially on the same side. I have felt that my beliefs and perceptions on various subjects were more challenged over the years by the regulars than anywhere else, not everything i have read there i have agreed with wholeheartedly.
At this point I donāt give a damn about the echo chamber argument, to be blunt and honest.
Whenever someone (usually right-winger) tells me this, I usually point to them that thank you very much, is on purpose and point them to this comic:
You made freely expressing our opinions unsafe, donāt tell us now that we cannot have our safe space to express them.
ETA: fixed the with the correct strip from webcomic name, via @chenille
And I know that being white, cis and masking as a ānormieā makes me the less threatened person in the room, but as I often said: I donāt want to be part of a place where only I am going to feel safe.
Bingo. Likewise, any place that is threatening to my friends is no place for me.
