BoingBoing move to substack

Fixed. It turns out we just didn’t have any.
Now we have one.

I don’t think you would need to charge us. Just something like a tip jar? Or venmo account. People in a position to do so could drop a tenner in every few months or something. Just to defray the costs. That said, it would be more work to set up and if you are in a position where that isn’t needed, then maybe wait until the costs rise or your situation changes.
If storage costs will balloon with use, I, personally, would be ok if posts had expiration dates to mitigate that. We do trend heavily towards pictorial expression, which is more storage. Plus, having that expiration date may make things safer for us. A year before they get wiped?

Second this. With my schedule, i don’t have time to offer, but i am privileged enough to be able to financially support things i care about. (Although all the Harris emails are getting old.) Not gonna shriek about it, but if i can help out, i am more than willing.

It sounds like all the old posts will still be up for a while. I don’t feel comfortable with being unable to edit or anonymize later. I’ve asked orenwolf to anonymize my account before the official move

Might be a good idea…

Holy cannoli!
Your position on all this is the most amazing and rare thing I have come across in months or maybe years. This feels to me like finding a gold nugget the size of a bowling ball, on the ground, on a walk in a public park.
Whew. We are incredibly fortunate to have you, and have this, and thank you again.

Thirding what @Kii and @Docosc are saying here about throwing some money in the tip jar. Rainy day fund? Contingency fund? Luck favors the prepared? Etc.

I’ve been doing web work, coding, etc. since 1997. By hand.
Gotta say, page weights and legacied-standards awareness are not to be sneezed at. Even now. We can’t all be enabled with giant heaps of broadband and the latest hardware and OS.

Well… I can’t, anyway.

Thanks. It’s a conscious decision, but it’s not as though it’s hard to see a group of people and not want to exploit them for profit.

Given the renewed enthusiasm, I’ll give it serious consideration. I’ll probably start a separate thread to discuss this further.

Thank you again for that; it was such a relief to turn that shit off.

Also it’s not just annoying; “AI” uses a fuckton of already finite energy to work.

It’s mostly not been a problem over the last 7 years, but it is something I would like to address more efficiently, primarily because I think I can reduce our costs somewhat.

Well… ok.

Honestly I’m just not feeling it. I joined and I’ll check it out a bit. But I’m just kind of overwhelmed and that makes it a nice time to take a break and focus offline.

Yeah… I don’t like the SubS setup and interface at all; not to mention the major issue, that they have no qualms about hosting fascist and transphobic content.

That right there.

Also, that a whole bunch of the “mediocre cis-het white dudes” that make up a lot of the BBS userbase are pretty much ignoring that whole aspect.

I’m feeling really valued! :smiley::+1:

(just substitute the climate language and etc. with platforming fascism, transphobia, all the toxic bs that late stage capitalists lean into…)

Is there anyone we’d like to DM on BB to invite here who isn’t already here? Provided that is ok with the Power that Be (singular)

I was wondering about that… maybe Floridamanjefe?

He’s a good chap. Why not?

Anyone else you can think of who might like to migrate here? @kii, too?

Tribune, maybe?

Gilbertwham on BB just reached out to me, and he used to be on here, so I’m gonna share the link with him, if everyone is cool with that.
