On the subject of people to invite from the BB, three names come to mind:

  • Spocko - He was a bit prickly as I recall, but not evil. Or maybe he was? He was out of my league.
  • modusoperandi - What ever happened to him? I think he got disgusted and left a looong time ago. Anybody know where he is?
  • Papasan - The former sailor. I think he was enrolled here, but has been inactive for a while. Maybe. Can/should we remind him?
  • Some older guy who was a mathematics or chemistry expert. Cannot remember even vaguely what his name was. He was also out of my league.

Even were I not having such a wretched day, Iā€™d feel almost as awful about that.

I was whingeing to a friend abt it, knowing heā€™d certainly understand. Hereā€™s what I told him, only slightly edited -

[that other jernt] really has been going downhill, with fewer and fewer wonderful things and cool weirdness being published, and assholesā€™ too often being allowed to abuse usually marginalized folk, then flagging them when theyā€™d rightly fought back. Ppl I really miss have vanished.

I also told him abt this place & gave him the address b/c he would be an ornament to the neighborhood. Heā€™s another unicorn.

My neurodivergent arse too often forgets to include an expression of the happy/relieved sigh of pleasure on seeing someone lovely pop up here.

I think the transitionā€™s going so smoothly from that other place to this BBS has to do w/it, too. Itā€™s like answering a landline call on one phone, and saying, ā€œHold on, lemme go use the phone in the [insert other room] and talk atcha there,ā€ & then have oneā€™s roomie, etc hang it up for you.

Modusoperandi offended Jason and was unjustly put on time out for a joke, years ago. He never deigned to come back to the BBS after that. The last time I saw was on Kinja, but that was at least two years ago, as Iā€™d quit commenting there.

IIRC, we reached out to Papasan after he was banned and there was no response.

I am not familiar with Spocko.

(For a second I thought you meant Shazsta, a user who has Mr. Spock as an avatar. That person is a hard no from me.)
