C'mon Guys (Toxic Masculinity)

Because masculinity is loud and stinky! Roll some coal to show you are a real man!

Literally. As much as we joke about it as something too absurd to be taken seriously, they LITERALLY believe this.

Putting the “toxic” literally into “toxic masculinity”

I’m imagining that at some point this guy saw an ad talking about thick stew full of hearty chunks of beef in a vaguely cowboyish voice, and decided that was it, if that was how marketers sold things then he could never be seen with regular soup again.

I’m imagining someone basically doing a shot with a hot bowl of soup and burning the hell out of their mouth. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: The toxic masculinity - it burns!

I also posted this over in the neurodiversity thread.

It’s also so telling that he interprets that omission as driven by hatred instead of, say, corporate greed.
It says much more about him than about the modern state of publishing!

Who shops for books at target in 20xx?

It’s usually a couple flavors of romance novel, and a billion shitty ai illustrated “dayplan w Jesus” books and some bestsellers from yesteryear that still seem expensive at “75% off.”

The online target smear campaign from the right is annoying.

If you want to read something get online and order it. Target has never been a bookstore. Bookstores died with my youth.

Or even go to a library!

Or a used book store!

Oh wait, Real Men would never set foot in either one of those places.

Happily not true.

The thing is that’s a real problem isn’t it?

Bookstores seemed cool when I was growing up. Sometimes even a little scary. But usually very mainstream cool.

And while I appreciate that the return to bookstores being avante garde, niche, or highly personalized around these parts it felt more like a total collapse.

There’s nothing inherintly masculine about ignorance though.

People seem to have accepted such a ugly lie so easily.

Sure. Though I gather this thread is about masculine forms of it, among other forms of toxic masculinity.

But our local used bookstore has a whole shelf of just World War II, which is History for Real Men! :frowning:

It says that he is a little snowflake making huge stretches to claim victim-hood. Oh noes! The little snowflake is melting!

Next time Zelensky shows up at the White House, I want him to wear that precise outfit.
