Can they? It was done on the floor.

Good point. Damn it!

She specifically said it on the floor to avoid being sued.

“Any and all statements made by members on the House floor are quintessential ‘legislative acts’, and protected by the speech and debate clause afforded under the constitution of the United States,” the statement from Mace’s office said. “Her statements tonight are not conjecture, they are not allegations, they are facts based on information she uncovered and documents she accidentally discovered.”

You’d think she would welcome a lawsuit after there was no criminal investigation. Or file a lawsuit herself. It isn’t like she doesn’t have the money to pay for good lawyers.

A closed-door meeting for House Democrats this week included a gripe-fest directed at liberal grassroots organizations, sources tell Axios.

Why it matters: Members of the Steering and Policy Committee — with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) in the room — on Monday complained activist groups like MoveOn and Indivisible have facilitated thousands of phone calls to members’ offices.

  • “People are pissed,” a senior House Democrat who was at the meeting said of lawmakers’ reaction to the calls.
  • The Democrat said Jeffries himself is “very frustrated” at the groups, who are trying to stir up a more confrontational opposition to Trump.
  • A Jeffries spokesperson noted to Axios that their office regularly engages with dozens of stakeholder groups, including MoveOn and Indivisible, including as recently as Monday

Zoom in: “There were a lot of people who were like, ‘We’ve got to stop the groups from doing this.’ … People are concerned that they’re saying we’re not doing enough, but we’re not in the majority,” said one member.

  • Some Democrats see the callers as barking up the wrong tree given their limited power as the minority party in Congress: “It’s been a constant theme of us saying, ‘Please call the Republicans,’” said Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.).
  • "I reject and resent the implication that congressional Democrats are simply standing by passively," said Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.).

Soooo, you’re simply standing by aggressively, then?

I’m not seeing much more besides some standing by, while sometimes talking. . .

Oh, well, excuse us for expecting to be represented by our representatives in this representative democracy.

I’ll be honest - I want to see them everywhere. Full court press, talking about every little thing and how it impacts. Talk to people in their districts on LOCAL news and what the things being done impact them. You hear your hometown or local area mentioned on the news and your ears perk up.

Dems messaging just sucks. It’s stuck in what feels like 100 years ago speed. They don’t promote success and try to be the adults in the room always, but sometimes being the adult means also getting into the mud.

Edit - Right now, can you think of one thing MTG said? Bet you can, partially because it’s insane, but she’s also EVERYWHERE. Now, quote me Schumer. Go ahead. No, Chuck Schumer, not Amy. Yeah, that guy. Bet you can’t.

Just wait till 2032; a hundred years before that, FDR got elected and shit stared moving very swiftly (well, for the commtech they had back then)!

Oh wait…isn’t 2032 or thereabout when the asteroid is s’posed to hit the earth?

Personally, I want John James the fuck outta the House of Reps. I don’t think he has it in him, though. And Gary Peters is done next year, and already there’s folks being mentioned.

And just curious: Which type of officeholders make the best POTUSes?

  • Congresspersons
  • Federal Judges
  • Governors
  • Senators
  • Animal Controllers

I’m not saying you’re standing by passively - you’re sitting in expensive , very comfy recliners while the private club staff brings you cigars and scotch.

That’s not fair, they spend a lot of time asking people for money, too.

Senate Democrats couldn’t object to a basic UC (unanimous consent) time agreement to slow down a nominee like Gabbard?

However, only one Democrat, Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, voted to confirm Pam Bondi as attorney general.

Always Fetterman. I’ve been full-court pressing my emails to him since he visited Mar a Lago. The last email I sent was promising to triple the effort and donations I put into his campaign and direct it all to anyone who primaries him. I closed it out with a statement that he made me root for “team stroke.”

She literally looks exactly like the MCU villain Julia Dreyfus is playing in the upcoming movie.

Sure that’s a coincidence, right? Man, reality’s writers are getting lazy.
