Doesn’t it just disappear when you say “end program?”

Poor Rom…
This adds more questions - the holodeck does indeed replicate items and then converts them back into energy when they are finished with, so does this mean the holodeck is just one giant replicator? What if it accidentally recycles someone who just went in there to pork a holodeck character when they are off shift? Because the holodeck is renowned for its robust safety protocols…
I could accept that the holodeck could emulate what you’re supposed to see. With a large stretch of the imagination I could see how the holodeck could emulate the sensation of touch since thats electrostatic repulsion. But how does the holodeck emulate the feeling of weight without synthesizing mass?
If the holodock is capable of recycling large amounts of mass back into energy, then why don’t starfleet vessels use holodeck technology to protect against missile strikes or energy blasts? By comparison the amount of matter converted to energy in the Hiroshima blast was equivalent to the mass of a butterfly
Forcefields?
I have never read the technical manual, nor have access to it, but i’d be curious to know if it goes into that level of detail.
The same thing with teleportation. These are technologies capable of creating more effective and deadly weapons than phasers or torpedoes.
I don’t have much imagination, but I bet a creative person could think of a number of ways to use these technologies as offensive weapons…
5 seconds thought, teleport a large mass of water from underwater causing cavitation…
Focused grav plating?
Psychdelic pheromones…
It’s all projected into your mind- there is no holodeck.
Our discussing the Holodeck is like Shakespeare writing about television.
I’ve always wondered how people walk and walk and walk for hours on end around the Holodeck and never hit a wall.
Okay… I have not watched these yet… but, maybe one of them will answer some of the questions people are proposing? I’ve watched some of the trek videos of Orangeriver, but not certifiably ingame, so I have no idea if the first is any good…
Yeah… that’s not this fandom. Trekkies take great pleasure in questioning everything… it’s part of what makes us trekkies!
