He sounds a lot more like Arnold J. Rimmer (BSC, SSC) than Mr. Spock.

With regards to yesterday’s UK Supreme Court’s ruling

Spot on. I wish bigots would stop appropriating things like this to support their own vile, bigoted opinions. Why is Trek so popular with the conservative right? It’s ours! You’re not allowed to like it so fuck off.

Steve Shives did a video on that topic a while ago…

They focus on the parts that they like (the cool ships, the science, etc) and dismiss or gloss over the parts they don’t (the humanism, the progressiveness, etc). It was kind of easy to do, as it’s (especially the original series) is a byproduct of the Cold War, and put American values sort of central, so it was easy to fool themselves into thinking that it meant that it was THEIR values, as they conflate their bigoted, small-minded views to American.

Yeah, i’ve seen this, i like his videos on Star Trek and i was thinking of him when i wrote that. A cursory online search suggests this question comes up quite often in reddit threads and whatnot.

Yeah, indeed. Star Trek is far harder to spin as conservative in nature than Star Wars and always has been. But assholes gonna be assholes.

Just watching the video again now because why not (the takedown of Cruz is worth a rewatch)? Once someone starts bellyaching about when Trek suddenly got all “woke” or “political” immediately gives one a measure of that person and i think, ‘ahhh… i see you, arsehole’.

Exactly… it got “woke” from the very first episodes, dipshits! Go back to your stupid interpretation of Star Wars, ya fucking jerks…

Good ol’ season eight. They were kind of starting to run out of ideas.
