Fucking block grants… :rage:

“I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there [were] discussion for allowing a state, if it wanted to, to block grant Medicaid and put in place other options in the Medicaid system to cover more individuals in their state,” said Price in an exclusive interview with the Guardian. “I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that were to happen.”

Also, the public universities are state-run and largely state-funded entities that only give their preferential tuition rates to residents of the state. So it really depends a lot on where you live.

For example, the California State University System is fairly high quality and tuition is pretty reasonable compared to most universities in the country. Tuition and fees for in-state residents is around $8k per year if you’re not living on campus (not including living expenses, books, etc. And I know that $8k a year is still unaffordable for many people.) But if you live in a state that hasn’t invested in a good university system and you can’t get a scholarship somewhere you’re really screwed. The university of Missouri is less well-regarded in national rankings and can cost over twice as much for its residents, who on average are less wealthy than Californians

My nearest well-regarded state university is University of Michigan where in-state tuition currently is just short of $19,000 per year. That’s not affordable for many people without loans.

Murphy seems to not understand that each of those “handouts” was an effort to unrig the system.

A level playing field still isn’t fair if you’re down and bleeding out.

And of course tuition is only part of the cost of attending college, especially if you plan to attend full-time or live on campus.

As I said:

I gets Coke now??

Indeed! It’s around $39,000/year if you live on campus.

What frustrates me about that article is that it isn’t until the 25th paragraph that it finally explains exactly what it means numerically when comparing this margin to past elections:

There needs to be a reward for not he-peating in the first place.

And if any such Congressperson fires back with, “So what? That’s a personal private matter decided for and applicable to our own households, so mind your own business”, then that’s the time to again remind them that they should likewise not be poking their noses into the personal private matters of others’ households and dictating what they can and cannot do with their own lives.

Yeah, this is totally inexplicable to me. Unlike most people surprised by the leopards eating their faces, I know she was paying attention. She had to have known it wasn’t just “children they care about.” It wasn’t just what Trump was saying, but what Republicans were already doing. Yet somehow she didn’t think it would apply to her? How?!

“If it’s a benefit policy I like, it’s unrigging the rules. If it’s a benefit policy I don’t like, it’s a handout.”
