Just to clarify something I saw in that AP article…
In open court last Thursday, Judge Rachel Tanguay of the New York Supreme Court, ruled that discovery must proceed, pushing the lawsuit brought by SMART Legislation into the evidence-gathering stage.
This makes it sound like it’s a bigger ruling that it is. She’s not a judge on THE New York Supreme Court, because there is no THE New York Supreme Court. New York is weird. They call their trial courts Supreme Courts. If you’ve ever watched Law and Order, when they get to the courtroom scenes, they’ll usually have text at the bottom that says something like “New York Supreme Court Part xx” where xx is some number. That’s how they refer to their trial courts. So this is just the trial court judge in this case issuing a ruling on a motion. I’m glad she did, but New York’s highest court, which they just call the New York Court of Appeals, was not involved.
Weirdness aside, ruling for full discovery is maybe a big deal.
Zero votes for Harris?! Definitely should’ve raised red flags if the county clerk was actually doing their job, regardless of particular district or ward - there are always contrarians. We have some in my progressive neighborhood, my dad and step mom are the “token” Dem vote in his Florida neighborhood.
I’ve seen tons on this - I guess I’m the target demo to send to. I mean, I’m happy to let the legal case work but I’m not sure what people are thinking will happen. Even if it turns out that Trump himself hand-coded the changes, after the electors have elected him, impeachment is the only path for removal. I’ve seen more than a few threads on Reddit where people seem to think this will automatically invalidate his presidency or whatever, which is fantasy thinking.
Where I think it matters most is in the states. In many of the swing states, if there were shenanigans, they have time to prevent a repeat in the midterms. Plus, if they can identify the perpetrators, they would face state charges.
I also think it would be nice to shut up all the corporate Dems who blame Harris and her campaign for losing and want to continue to shift the party to the right instead of embracing a shift to the left.
