Elections 2023-2024

This guy has been in office too damned long. Notice the “political supporter” who looked like an extra from “Stone Cold”. He’s like a cross between Trump and Giuliani. When he first became mayor, he looked like a respectable old school undertaker, or perhaps prison warden; his hair was not dark and it was straight. Also, he went door-to-door asking for votes - and Warren’s the 3d biggest city in MI.

SIGH.

Plus: I already voted a couple months ago, when I got my mail-in ballot. Fuck him and his disruptive tactics.

He is a fucking disgrace to the entirety of SE Michigan. I don’t care if he goes away gracefully, just go. away.

(I’m in Washtenaw County, within the alleged Blue Bubble, but that’s every incorporated city over here - Ann Arbor, Ypsi, Saline and Milan.)

According to the unofficial results it is around 43% to 57% now.
Which, had it passed, that 57% would not have been enough for the next. I think that really clearly illustrates what they were trying to do and how important it was.

@DaakSyde thanks for the correction

This sounds good

We really need to get someone to go after MTG’s seat… That’s gonna be a difficult nut to crack, but it needs to happen.

He doesn’t have a chance. According to my weird theory on POTUS hopefuls, one cannot have a non-Western-European surname and be POTUS unless one is Barack Obama.

And yes, I had to modify it after Barry became POTUS, lol.

Seriously though, only a Democrat w/more melanin could win the nom, no matter what the last name. The Gross Ol’ Pissants are blowing smoke up his ass.

I didn’t think Trump had a chance in 2015. I thought his campaign was a joke. I will not make that mistake again, no matter how unlikely I think Ramaswamy’s chances are. Trump dropped a few points in the polls after the debate he skipped. I think it’s entirely possible at this point that Trump won’t win the nomination, and if he doesn’t, I think it’s almost anyone’s to win, including Ramaswamy. He is dangerous. Maybe even more dangerous than DeSantis. He’s a con artist. His business model is built on buying drugs on the cheap that big pharma corps couldn’t get approved, and then getting them approved and taken to market. So far, he’s been unsuccessful. One of his other major campaign issues is deregulation. He’s for that because his business depends on it. He needs drugs to be easier to get approved. If he gets his way, a thalidomide level disaster is all but inevitable.

You’re right, I mistyped that.

I don’t think he has that much of a chance, surname or not. Who ever heard of him before now? I haven’t, not that I represent any sort of major demographic. (yes, I know - I’m white and female and 58, but I’m also a fucking weirdo who becomes more and more of a Socialist as I age, and there aren’t that many of us around, I don’t think.)

And forgive me, I typed with my tongue slightly in my cheek. You will get to know that once you read more of my posts.

I’m a few years younger (51), but that fits me too, though I’m leaning both socialist and anarchist, as much as I understand either/both of them… which I’ll admit, isn’t much. (But I’m learning.) So you aren’t the only weirdo out there…

Still, we’re not much of a demographic…yet?

Count me as another weirdo. I’ll be turning 40 in a couple months and my already socialist/communist political leanings have definitely started leaning far more anarchist due to the ongoing state oppression of trans people.

It’s hard to say. :woman_shrugging: My social circles are mostly on the Internet, where people tend to group with people most like themselves in some fashion, whether it’s a fandom, or a political point-of-view, or whatever. But the folks I hang out with online are only a tiny example of all the opinions out there in the world.

My guess is, there are many people out there who are alienated by the current ultra-capitalistic, plutocratic and patriarchal system… but for whatever reason, aren’t aware of the alternative sociopolitical philosophies out there. I know I was saying “this system sucks!” long before I had any inkling what Socialism or Anarchism really meant. TOS helped, then came Twitter and Twitch… and while I still don’t consider myself truly knowledgeable about any of it, I’m learning more and more. So there are likely people like us who don’t know they’re like us yet, if that makes sense?

I think there are more and more of us who aren’t getting more conservative as we age. I had already moved pretty far to the left by age 50, and then I went to law school. That fucking shoved me way further left really fast. Not everyone who goes to law school experiences that, but when I took Constitutional Law and Criminal Law, I was like, “Holy crap, I knew it was bad. I didn’t realize it was this bad.”

See, I’ve known about alternate philosophies for decades, but was too caught up in my life to care. Even though I knew that the shit we were living in at the time was wrong, but I didn’t know HOW fucking wrong. The scales fell from my eyes as I got further and further down the road of poverty, which also led to my enlightenment. And all that reading started to make more and more sense, and Prince Kropotkin and Eugene Debs became my heroes, even though they were white men, they didn’t act like 'em; they provided two examples of people who used the privileges of being white men to help other human beings.
