Elections 2023-2024

I say let them talk. Make it more than obvious even for low-information (average) voters. No one should pretend to vote for Trump with their eyes closed.

I think they just have to be fascists who believe that they are winning and can get away with it… and they’ll continue to do that, as long as there are not consequences for their actions. And thus far… there looks like little in the way of consequences…

They are, of course, already. But if the media isn’t covering it or some outlets aren’t covering it, then some people are not going to be aware of it. Part of the problem is that so much of the media just isn’t doing their jobs here, especially the conservative outlets. They are hiding this shit, and so large swaths of the American public, who might be turned off by this aren’t hearing it. And the ones that ARE hearing it LIKE it and see it as a plus…

I received my advance ballot last week, and was able to fill it out at my leisure and drop it off at the designated drop box at the election office, which is only a short drive from my house. It was honestly pretty much like this:

One advantage to this approach is that you have plenty of time to look up details if you need to. For example, in Kansas we vote whether or not to retain judges at various levels every four years. By having an advance/mail-in ballot, I could easily look each one up and see which Governor had appointed them, and potentially other details before making my decision. I would not have felt comfortable doing that in a voting booth, and would likely have only been able to feel confident about my choices if I had done research ahead of time and made notes that I could quickly check on my phone.

One minor frustration about advance voting in Kansas is that you have to request a ballot for every election, even primaries. The only way to permanently enroll in advance voting is if you have a qualifying situation, like a permanent disability. My wife jokes that it’s the only thing that has ever gotten her.

Steve really captures my feelings about the absolute torrent of emails I get on a near constant basis:

I feel like I’ve heard that every day for the past decade.

HCR talked a lot about the MSG rally, too. Is milliefink here? And is she planning on continuing to post that every day here?

Recently the media seems to be actually covering the racist, evil and senile crap that flows from the fascists. Hope springs eternal and all.

It might be the case this time… it’s certainly true that he’s been losing support since Jan. 6th, even as some double down. Reality is that we won’t know until we know the impact this had. Just over a week to go.

Also, worth a watch…

(with my apologies in advance as a total n00b here, in case this has been copiously posted in other threads including this thread, which, I suppose, I really ought to read all 471 posts in, but I’m about to leave for a meeting… please bear with me, it’s a good graphic…)

The American People (Delmar and Everett) are getting their advanced tutorial from the Media (Big Dan Teague):

This echoes Jessie’s comments, I would say, although a bit less delicately.

Apparently the President just went and stood in line to vote…

And there’s video (sound cuts in and out, so)…

Biden has really surprised me in mostly good ways. Way more progressive than I’d ever imagined. Usually I’m really sour on a president by the time they leave. Even if I liked them ok when they started.

I think he will eventually be remembered as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, one term President we’ve had. Now, that’s kind of a low bar because usually a one term President only serves one term because they get shown the door because no one liked the job they did. Still…

I’ll never understand the “I’m not going to vote/I’m going to vote for someone who clearly won’t/can’t win because I don’t think the better candidate is good enough” line of thought. It seems like a recipe to make sure that you never get the kind of governance you would want, and potentially just hand all governance over to people like… well, like Trump, who’s never going to have anyone saying “I don’t want to vote for him because he’s not bad enough”.

And, between Trump and Harris, it seems pretty clear which one would be capable of being convinced to do even better.
