Elections 2023-2024

From your lips to god’s ears….

The Guardian flipped NC back to lite red (and others), but most of the counted districts are red. It’s close enough that it could go either way as the results come in.

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania seems strongly leaning Harris, which should be the key.

It’s interesting how Trump’s aggressive hawking of crypto crap and promises to deregulate it don’t even seem to raise an eyebrow.

The AJ link has some great visualizations. Thanks for sharing that.

Texas is a lost cause right now. It’s already been called for Trump and Cruz has already been called for Senate. NC still has a chance and that’d be massive.

Thank both the Street God and the Woods God that NC hasn’t completely lost it:

Let this bode well for the national race in NC.

I’ve been through enough of rural Texas that I’m confident they would never turn blue even if Hell froze over.

I’m pissed at my fellow Texans. Called for Trump. The Texas Tribune and AP not showing a call for Cruz.

But the locals seem to be doing ok. That hyper local issue I discussed at TOP is going the way it should. Preliminary results only, but 68% against defunding the fire department.
I hope that margin is higher by the end of the night. The assholes who pushed that proposition onto the ballot and spilled money all over for big signs really need to be shown their place.

I saw an article just a few days ago about how crypto should “just be money” and therefore any taxes on it should be done away with (with the subtext, of course, to vote for Trump and support Musk).

I think my eyeroll could be heard from miles away…

(And that’s as someone who does own some crypto, though all of it was through mining)

Maybe, but not all of Texas is rural Texas.

Despite tonight’s outcome, slightly more adults in the state identify as Democrats than as Republicans. Flipping the state blue is still a very doable near-to-medium-term goal.

Good news about the Senate:

We are very grateful she was able to come back. As bad as the U.S. is for women, at least she’s not being shelled.

Trying not to freak out, reminding myself that all the states called as red so far were red in 2020 as well. Not really a fan of how they all seem to be getting counted first so Trump at least appears to be bulldozing to victory. I still have a hard time dealing with the fact that Trump has more votes than ZERO, stuff like this really breaks my brain.

HIV test. From before the current time where it is treatable.

Still waiting for the Red Mirage to dissipate. . . :grimacing:

If I didn’t know better I’d think Trump was making jokes at his VP’s expense just to lighten the mood tonight:

Here is some good news so far.

The idea is that if you googled “where can I vote for Harris”, you’d get a map and directions. But, if you googled “where can I vote for Trump”, you wouldn’t get a map.

“Harris” is the name of a county in Texas, and it was showing a map related to that.

Huh. I’d heard about this conspiracy theory, and mostly dismissed it, but I hadn’t fully clocked just how dumb it really was.

I keep reminding myself that it takes a lot less time to count votes in county of 15,000 versus a county of 1,500,000. But yeah, it’s a big source of anxiety.
