Safety-critical systems don’t depend on one person. They’re done by several people, representing several different viewpoints and interests. So if there’s a mistake, a whole bunch of very different people have to miss it. I’ve made mistakes on safety-critical systems, and they were caught in one of the many layers of review.
The key is to run a safety project not as a place where good ideas are born, but where bad ideas die. And to do that, you need to be humble enough to freely admit bad ideas. Which brings us back to the idea of Elno having anything to do with air traffic control…

I think that’s a very likely scenario… although, I think they also plan to use it to eliminate any benefits for anyone who oppose them. I think they’ll even use that information to not only purge people from the Federal government but to go after those of us who oppose them, in whatever way that they can.
There is a reason why Hannah Arendt lumped Stalinist Russia together with Nazi Germany… she wasn’t wrong on that… authoritarianism is less about specific political orientation and more about a system of control.
The immigrant community in Sweden was already being widely vilified and blamed for an increase in crime by right-wing local politicians, so I imagine that many were initially a little relieved* when the news came out that the perpetrator was a white guy who was born and raised in Sweden. But it hardly matters what the facts are because assholes like Musk are just going to lie and blame immigrants not matter what.
*(Given the magnitude of the tragedy maybe there’s a better word than “relieved” that I just can’t think of right now)
Fucking great. On the federal and state level, it’s gotten more difficult to even file class-action lawsuits. Cancer rates drastically increase in an area where regs were pulled on the affected area’s water supply? A shorter life and defendents’ long-game bullshit stalling and right-wing courts to look forward to.
