I knew it as I typed it. My face looked like this as I typed. :anguished:

Charger stuck in Cybertruck

That is ssssooooooooo Cybertruck. The thin wire/cable nylon loop and location look exactly like what I’d expect for a Tesla as-cheap-ass-as-possible janky shop-floor fix. If they cared, there would have been a switch at/near the dashboard… or just redesign the plug/port latching so the shit doesn’t happen at all. Damn!

The build ‘quality’ is on display there. I would expect better from a first-draft prototype.

That’s the impression I get from this bit:

…the company has been approaching well-known chefs about providing the food.

When Caroline Styne and Suzanne Goin, who own the Lucques Group of restaurants in Los Angeles, fielded an inquiry from Tesla in 2023 about operating the diner, they decided against it. The restaurant wouldn’t have a liquor license, Ms. Styne said, which made the economics challenging, and besides, “we’re not drive-in-diner kind of people.”

Which makes it sound like there’s some risk to the chefs being approached (beyond the reputational) - although it might have just been not wanting to waste time on a job that they knew would fail, it sounds like there’s more to it than that.

In another timeline, where Elno was just some quirky entrepreneur who made electric vehicles and didn’t try to turn the world nazi, I could get behind a retrofuturistic diner with electric vehicle charging and hot meals and decent coffee. I don’t know if electric vehicles have enough market segment to make this as profitable as service station diners. I suspect not, at this stage, but it’s easy to picture it happening.

On this timeline - no, you can keep your nazi diner / firebomb magnet.

Its fairly common here to see EV charging stations set up next to supermarkets. You can plug in, do your shopping, and come out to a charged vehicle. Its a model that works because people have to go to supermarkets anyway and a grocery trip can take 30 minutes or so. It’s especially useful if the supermarket is close to the highway.

I think that a drive-in diner model doesn’t make as much sense. In this case you’re making a special trip outside of your usual activities, and frankly even fast charging would have you there for at least 30 minutes. Nobody today drives to a gas station with the intent of hanging out for 30 minutes.

i see your point in today’s fast-paced lifestyle, but - outside of the whole tesla/swasticar diner ethos - i think it could be a fun idea. especially in car centric, home of the drive-in diner, Los Angeles.
having grown up in the time of A&W drive-in and still a huge fan of Sonic (the closest one being Key West),.i could see this idea of electro-charge, retro drive-in, destination burger joint being a thing.
the whole Tesla thing can die in a lithium fire, but the '50s style car hop place to charge up your “hot rod” is just too American Grafitti for the modern world to pass up.

I don’t doubt that the drive-in could be fun but maybe once a month? Maybe once every other month? It would still have to be good to get repeat business. The supermarket model works because you’re going there anyway and charging time is about the same as shopping time. This just seems like a gimmick that will be popular for a while, then people will quit going.

Anyone know if Tesla charging stations have built-in security cameras like the cars do?

…asking for a friend. :smirk:

Apparently Teslas have been big sellers in LA, so there’s a real market for a diner where you can get a meal while your car recharges. Whether a businessman as poor as Elno could have made it work is another issue. Musk rendering his brand toxic changes the viability of the whole thing, however.

Get out. #Tesla #TSLA

Elon is so leveraged, that if TSLA is worth $120 per share, he is penniless.

The con game is over. The company never evolved. Elon deserves his fate.

Get desperate Musk out of politics.

I just read an article about how he’s promising to crank out 5000 of his “humanoid robots” in '25. That’s THIS YEAR. It’s going to be Fine because they’re just going to Speed Up Innovation.
