Elon outs $16.5B Samsung chip deal Tesla asked to keep secret

"ā€œI will walk the line personally to accelerate the pace of progressā€

Like with Starship? Or Cybertruck?

How many chips is he going to waste going into the clean room?

Based on what I’m reading about how disgruntled local officials are with Tesla Robotaxis in Austin, I’m not even sure they will even still be there in a year.

It’s interesting to see how increasingly unhinged the forecasts from a certain (AI-related) corner of the tech industry have become, with Elno always pushing things even further. It’s one thing for Meta to say, ā€œSure, we’re only getting $20 billion in revenue with AI-related products right now, but we expect we’ll be doing $1.4 trillion worth in a decade. Even though we have no path towards making that happen. Hey, it could come true - who knows what could happen in that time?ā€ It’s another for Musk to claim something unlikely in a ridiculous timeframe that requires all sorts of infrastructure and government approvals that don’t exist.

Though I wonder if Musk has some (delusional) plan to open up the program so that anyone with a Tesla can rent it out. Never mind that there are only a few million Teslas in the US (and even fewer owners willing to use them that way), and never mind that they don’t have enough drivers for all those vehicles, much less regulatory approval. The existence of Teslas around the country in the context of a delusional plan like that is the only way that statement could make sense.

My sources tell me the secret plan is to fly HLS to the Moon and set up a robotic factory to make next gen AI chips out of regolith. By next Tuesday or so.

This probably won’t happen. Sounds good in theory, but it gets hung up on one very simple, but infinitely important question:

Who cleans the barf out of the car?

Until that question is resolved satisfactorily, there will be no car-share ride-share service.

You did mention delusional.

And Musk is never going to share money with his customers. They’re the marks.

Or, you know, just bits of debris on bystanders.

Yeah, when the idea was previously floated by Elno, that seemed like a pretty big issue that Musk was completely oblivious to - the amount of work ride-share workers engage in to keep their vehicles clean, given drunk/terrible passengers (who, in the absence of a driver would be so, so much worse). Made worse by the fact that for maximum efficiency the vehicle wouldn’t necessarily even return home between trips. I suspect that (and the other drawbacks) would occur to car owners long before they actually signed up for such a program. That for car owners, it’s not a ā€œno-work version of Uber,ā€ but instead ā€œUber with only the crappy bits.ā€

Hey now, I’m sure car owners will get as much as 5, maybe even 10% of the revenue profits! (They’ll also be responsible for the insurance, cleaning the car, fixing it up when passengers trash it, etc.)

Holy crap, how would the insurance policy on that kind of arrangement even work?

Tesla will proved a ā€œchauffeur-sytle service operated by human driversā€

That’s the offer??? Holy crap, I’m glad I finished my coffee before I read that.

Bwaaaa haaaa!!! He’s invented the taxi. It’s genius!

[stop stop, it’s starting to hurt my ribs, and I need to pee]
