The marginal utility of money declines pretty fast. For a guy of Jagger’s wealth and age the difference in lifestyle would probably be minimal. And because of his stardom the money would be useless in terms of status, too.

Just curious if anyone can find another source for this story. The website for the linked article is sketchy as hell and I can’t even see the whole story due to all the pop-ups. I haven’t seen this reported elsewhere yet.
If Musk really is trying for huge celebrity endorsement deals that’s definitely a big, desperate change in strategy. But I want to be sure the story is real before I celebrate too much.

Turning down the money has already given him a considerable boost in status for no effort at all.
Another idea: demand the money in advance, do a half-hearted endorsement that Musk hates (or just delay and stall for the rest of your life) and donate the money to various progressive causes and charities.
Is that cheating?

I guess Musk’s thing is peppering his nonsense with just enough words someone smart might say (limbic system, light cone, everything about AI) that people assume the reason the emperor looks naked is that they’re not smart enough. It must work on investors, anyway, who are apparently some of the dumbest people alive after the billionaires they support.
