Holy Moses, I’ve been to Ft. Bragg! Me and probably one million soldiers over the past 10 years.
Both of these suspects served in the US military. The Vegas guy was an active-duty Green Beret on leave. He had a long history of service starting in 2006 and had been awarded 2 Bronze Stars.
The fact that he was special forces and had served for so long adds a weird wrinkle to this bizarre attack. Given his background he must have known that the fireworks and fuel wouldn’t make an especially large explosion, right? I wonder if killing folks other than himself was actually his intent or not. Probably still yes, but who knows.
I guess there’s a market for people who want to display without actually buying one.
That narrows it all down…
I wonder who’s insurance pays for the new trucks.
They were both rented through Turo, an app where people rent their cars to strangers.
I’m guessing there’s some small print about vehicle being destroyed by an act of terrorism.
Huh, I am surprised that they have to guess. Are there no official statistics on registrations in the US? Usually Germany is relatively stingy when it comes to government data, but the exact number of first time registrations by model is available on a monthly basis. Sure, registrations are not exactly the same as sales, but for a model sold only in North America it should give you a pretty good idea.
He’s taking the opportunity to hawk his brand.
The comments underneath are all praising him and his tanks.
Hey, Mr. Musk will call you a person of interest Very soon.
I was checking in on the Laura Loomer fued and came across this.
Loomer posted this.
Wait, so does this mean that the CyberTruck is permanently recording you even when you have data sharing off?
Is that what they are saying?
How do you get a recording if the driver didn’t enable data sharing? Does this mean it’s always recording you regardless?
And of course Musk is inserting himself. Proprietary video or access to the video. Loomer’s not wrong, what data is Musk collecting without the owner’s knowledge?
The truck (and all Teslas) most likely is sending all your data to Musk 24/7 whether you like it or not, but in this specific case I wouldn’t assume that the owner was even trying to disable any kind of tracking. After all the owner rented the truck out to strangers from the internet through Turo. Many people would probably like to be able to track their vehicles in that scenario.
That story may not have been completely accurate.
ABC reported this, which raises other questions like, auto lock that requires the company to unlock?
Seems odd.
The sheriff said Tesla CEO Elon Musk helped the investigation by having the truck unlocked after it auto-locked in the blast and giving investigators video of the suspect at charging stations along its route from Colorado to Las Vegas.
Hell - even I have been at Fort Bragg.
Picked up a friend being discharged & all of us went on a trip.
Here’s hoping she continues to use it everyday everywhere- at high speed over difficult terrain.
…and in deep snow, and ahem driving rain.
Obviously we’re going to have to shut down the US military until we have this all sorted out. It’s the Trumpian solution.
Presumably not much has changed at Tesla since this story came out:
Even I have been there three times…oh, wait. I’ve only been to the town in Northern California three times, not the army base in NC.
eta: I’ve just been reminded that we drove through Fayetteville and next to Ft. Bragg.
Also, my cousin separated from the army at Ft. Bragg, but that was in the early 90s and he died of a brain aneurysm about five years later, so he’s in the clear.
WTF, a dude SHOT HIMSELF IN THE HEAD IN THAT THING… What a fucking ghoul that man is…
You don’t get to be the richest billionaire on earth by caring about other people’s lives or deaths.
