I’m reading that the suspect used camping fuel canisters along with the fireworks. I once worked on a film set for a scene that had a big fiery explosion. The pyro guy was showing me how he liked to use the little disposable camping propane canisters because they made a predictable and impressive looking fireball without actually creating much of a concussive blast. (The fuel needs to exit the canister and mix with air before it can burn, so it can’t build up internal pressure like a pipe bomb would. Plus it’s pretty thin-walled steel).
It’s early in the investigation but one of my takeaways so far is that regulation of explosives clearly works. This guy wasn’t able to get his hands on dynamite (as anarchists used to be able to do easily before regulations about 100 years ago) or even ammonia fertilizer like Mcveigh did, as that’s also regulated now. If only we could apply those lessons to firearms in this country…
Edit to add:
I just watched the security footage of the blast. It was even smaller than I expected! Didn’t even break the glass of the building’s doors and windows that were just a few feet away. And the truck’s tires all stayed intact. I’m not even sure if it managed to set off the truck’s lithium battery, since the fire damage didn’t look too extreme.

So Marge is still claiming the Tesla and Burboun Street are related.
Marge is going so far as to say humanitarian aid to Afghanistan funded them.
The FBI said the truck driver acted alone.
But of course Marge doesn’t believe the FBI.
The new guy is blaming open borders for the US born citizen that drove the truck.
Weird.

So far the only commonality is that both trucks were rented by US Army veterans who served in Afghanistan at various points. But I don’t think MTG will bring that up.
