Fall of the Fourth Estate: A Critique of Mass Media

There is a local sports radio duo around here that hosts a bunch of ensemble sports talks shows. The first guy says, I think x about y. Then the 2nd chump says, I have a completely different take, I think x about y. He didn’t even listen to what the other guy said because he was thinking up his stupid take. All the other gustes smile and don’t mention it. Idiots!

They must get better ratings, or something. It fueled this rumor about CBS trying their own conservative version of The View. Now, instead of Joy Reid, MSNBC presents more Michael Steele  and the rest of the crew from The Weekend.

Ah right, when the black face spouts conservative dogma, suddenly they’re not a DEI hire. :weary:

I don’t believe you, NYT. If that’s really your concern, you could and should have covered Trump, his adminstration(s), his campaigns, his little friends and whatnot in a whole different way during at least the last ten years or so.
No, NYT, I think right now you’re just pissed off about losing status and having your delicate sensibilities offended.

They’re having their leopard / face moment. Will they learn anything from it?

Narrator: “They will not.”

We know Elno has X and uses it to spread lies, misinformation, and the regime’s agenda. Zuck has FBook. Felon47 also has Truth Social. The opposition has Bluesky and _?

Some prominent Democrats with their own channels and podcasts refuse to abandon X and FBook, saying we need to meet people where they are. :woman_shrugging:t5: Still, an alternative that consistently promotes and points people to independent sources, progressive groups, and organizations countering the regime’s messaging would be useful.

But as long as we maintain our facade of stately decorum, the :leopard: will never eat OUR gravitas.

Which is hilarious. The View, while certainly not a right wing show, isn’t leftist, either, and is barely liberal. Whoopi constantly complains about her taxes, Sunny Hostin is an extremely Catholic former prosecutor who is, at best, reluctantly pro choice, Sara Haines aggressively “both sides” everything, Ana Navarro is a Never Trump Republican, and Alyssa Farah Griffin is a former Trump staffer who only flipped after Jan 6. The only host anywhere close to the left is Joy Behar.

Weirdly, Wired sort of set the tone for how the media would cover Silicon Valley, as they had a very California Ideology vibe going on back when they started back in the 90s… They helped make this possible in some ways.

Where does this idea come from that podcasts are only for the right? I was listening to podcasts when all the American right wing were still locked into talk radio
