Fall of the Fourth Estate: A Critique of Mass Media

I don’t know. They made it pretty clear, if you read between the lines, that his resignation is tied to their parent corporation’s need to gain government approval for a merger. Otherwise, why would that have been a relevant fact to include in that announcement? Did they do it in a way that protects their jobs? Yes. But I don’t recognize those two anchors. I have no idea who they are. They almost certainly don’t have the influence, resume, or wealth of Bill Owens. Being more direct could tank their careers.

ETA:

Colbert could, and absolutely would, walk away in a heart beat, and they know it. He doesn’t need CBS as much as they need him.

Right? Same with that guy who was with Sarah Silverman for a bit, blanking on his name. I don’t think either one is so popular that the entire network falls if they leave.

Jimmy Kimmel? No, probably not, but I’d not be happy if Colbert went off the air… I appreciate the geeky representation…But of course, they’d just find someone else who promise not to make anti-Trump jokes and most people wouldn’t give a shit.

Between the two, they are pushing 30 million YT subscribers. Kimmel has 20, Colbert has over 9. I don’t think TPTB want to mess with people much more popular than they will ever be among the un-indoctrinated. The most liked comments on their videos are from folks thanking them for helping them to remain calm. I doubt :tangerine:  wants to damage their calm even more, but if he makes that move I’ll get the  ready.

Yet another reminder that naming it “AI” alone was enough to fool many people into thinking it’s sentient. Never mind that the creation of genuine self-aware artificial life would utterly remake society, they all apparently assume it happened when they weren’t looking, with no notable consequences, and now are wasting time arguing for the rights of LLM chatbots while actual people are being disappeared, murdered or stripped of their rights on a global scale. The scale of misinformation generated by one dickhead techbro at some point deciding “hey, wouldn’t it be fun to pretend we’re in the sci-fi future without putting in the work to get there?”

At last night’s White House Correspondents Dinner, there was more criticism of Biden than there was of Trump. Fuck all these people.

Sniveling cowards. Sniveling cowards everywhere.

For anyone who doesn’t want to read the whole article, the jackass from Axios who wrote the piece about the Biden administration covering up his decline spoke and shamed the media for not covering that story sooner. Meanwhile, hardly anyone mentioned Trump at all. Sniveling cowards, indeed.

What’s killing me is how many outlets are reporting that interview by saying things like “Reporter fact checks Trump to his face” and other bs. He did no such thing. Man, we really need a Mike Wallace or Edward R. Murrow right now.

They’ll only get one shot at it, too. He goes with people he doesn’t consider to be left-leaning, and constantly trots out the victim card when reporters aren’t “nice,” women are inherently “nasty,” and critiques questions instead of giving an actual answer. Anyone who doesn’t kiss up is cast as hostile or attacking him, and whatever company they work for gets the “not very good” or “nobody pays attention to you” unsolicited review.

TBH, I’d rather see a supercut of his childish behavior in a short video from Meidas Touch or even The Lincoln Project. Anything that shows him as being weak, whiny, or clueless will do.

I think there’s a good chance Meidas Touch will compile such a video. :crossed_fingers: I haven’t subscribed, but I think I need to - my best aunt and I have been trading MT and BB emails since mid-summer last year. I’m very impressed by how much MT has grown. It’s doing better than the so many right-wing outlets.
