Very early in my professional path, it was explained to me that “security is inversely proportional to convenience”, and it’s surprising how well that maxim has aged.

And unless brutally forced to do otherwise users will choose convenience over security on any day.

Yes.

I’ve never held a security clearance, but I was led to believe that the training and consequences qualified as “brutal forcing”. Not so much this time.

So 125 complaints of DEI from people trying to make a political point out of how many millions of overall viewers in the US?

For comparison,

  • 1,312 viewer complaints about the Jennifer Lopez’s 2020 halftime show (“I do not subscribe to The Playboy Channel, we do not buy porn for $20 a flick, we simply wanted to sit down as a family and watch the Super Bowl. God forbid we expected to watch football and a quick concert but instead had our eyes molested.”).
  • 887 viewer complaints for Rihanna’s 2024 halftime show.
  • Janet Jackson drew more than 500K complaints for her wardrobe malfunction.

Two takeaways: Kendrick Lamar show was the least objectionable by far, and Americans overall have an issue with women during performing halftime shows.

I see what you mean and agree, but I’d guess that honor actually goes to Coldplay?

That one.

So much for the “good” royals…? :woman_shrugging:

Maybe not since the box also says a “source close to ex-trustees claims accusation baseless.”

I agree with the shrug though. “Who cares” indeed.

FTA:

In January, Trump announced that the US plans to order about 40 large icebreakers to supplement its current fleet.

Anyone know the size of the current US icebreaker fleet? Would 40 be excessive for its current territorial waters?

No idea, and it depends on what you mean by excessive, aye? If you think, as Hair Furor apparently does, that it’s finally time to extract the oil lying under that ice, we’ll never have enough ice breakers.

Breaking the Naval Impasse on the U.S. Icebreaker Program — The Fletcher Forum of World Affairs.

“ Russia has a fleet of forty-six icebreakers, including three nuclear-powered ships for extended Arctic patrols, and has recently launched a new “class of combat icebreakers with high-speed guns and launchers for anti-ship and land-attack cruise missiles.” Both Russia and China have centralized their icebreaker programs under their navies, underscoring their view of these ships as military assets.

In contrast, America’s icebreaker program is in disarray. The U.S. government has only two operational icebreakers—the decades-old Polar Star and the Healy—and neither of them are capable of year-round operations. Plans to build a new fleet of six to nine icebreakers, through the Polar Security Cutter (PSC) program, are faltering. This joint venture between the Navy and Coast Guard is vastly over budget and behind schedule, already exceeding procurement cost by 39 percent, with the first delivery expected in 2029—four years late.”

Mr. President; we have an ice breaker gap! The fight for the artic is heating up?

Didn’t I read elsewhere that the Coast Guard was being forced to buy a used icebreaker that won’t even do the job?

No idea.

But I can get you a great deal?

I found it.

The boat owner offered to sell the crappy boat to the USCG who said it was unsuitable, then donations were made, and lo and behold the USCG bought it.

Unfortunately the cupholders aren’t rated for marine usage
