Wow.
“But you didn’t do anything!”
“Yes. That’s our new model.”
Chilling in every way.
When I read that, I had a new understanding of just how deeply fkd the people of Texas and the U.S. truly are.
“War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength.”
Truly, utterly bad faith masquerading as good news.
Heckuva job Davie.
EXACTLY!
The whole goal of this group of overt fascists is to make the federal government a tool for the benefit of the incredibly rich, and absolutely nothing else. The peons need to get used to dying horribly for the rich to get those extra pennies!
Good for them. That’s better forward-thinking than Mao ever displayed.
Good.
Though hopefully it doesn’t mean that they’re heading into a recession. That would be worldwide.
Trump demanding that China buys US oil, gas and coal (at premium prices) or else in 10, 9, 8, …
Jeffrey Epstein’s Birthday Album Included Letters From Bill Clinton, Leon Black
Former president, Wall Street billionaire were listed along with Donald Trump as ‘friends’ in the 2003 book’s table of contents, which named around five dozen contributors
That curve looks awfully fast for renewables roll-outs, which have been happening at scale for a decade. They’ve done amazing work, and it’s allowed China to surpass emissions reduction targets that the rest of the world thought aspirational at best (i.e. “sounds nice, but we all know it’s impossible”).
Since those are just the US to China figures, I assume that China is simply sourcing the fuels from elsewhere.
ETA: Just did a quick check: Australia is the world’s largest exporter of coal, and exports to China rose significantly in 2024. Haven’t found the 2025 data yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it climbed even further.
ETAA: Of course, I’m still looking forward to a day when high school kids in history class are puzzled about why all those wars happened over oil, of all things. “Why was it so valuable? Who used it?”
It looks like China is prioritising electrification and reducing reliance on oil and gas imports.
This makes sense if their main goal is to lessen dependence on imports of fuel from unstable countries, but is less good for the environment as it means they’re relying on coal for longer.:
Yep, that’s exactly what they’re doing. The amount of wind and solar they’re rolling out every year is mind-blowing. My understanding is that their coal consumption is big but: a) is less per unit GDP than other industrialized countries managed, and b) might have already peaked.
Long-term strategic planning, how does it work?
