Judging from the looks of it, one could wish the developers were.
(The art style I could easily accept. The “gameplay” that’s on display in the gameplay trailer, however…)

Toonstruck is free on GOG at the moment. Well worth the money!
For those who’ve not heard of it, imagine a point & click version of Who Framed Roger Rabbit - it even stars Christopher Lloyd
Not to mention the inaccurate title. There are two of them. They are surely the Commanders Keen.
I got Monument Valley last weekend, and have now played through it six or seven times now. It is not long at all, but it’s definitely replayable, thanks to the brilliant aesthetics which are kind of Europe 1930s travel poster meets Middle Eastern religious architecture.
but will the game live up to the hype?
YES.
IT WILL.
Last time someone posted about it, I played another 30 hours. What will happen this time?
OK OK. It happens to be massively discounted on GOG, right now
(probably because it’s old, and there are sequels and expansions, etc.)
I can’t cope with the flashing on the front page of that site, but the store page is somewhat better. But no filters for accessibility needs…
P.S. How accessible are the early Ultima games? IV is free, I-III are steeply discounted. I’m specifically concerned about flashing cursors and/or graphics.
most of the animated repoitoire is demnonstrated on the opening screen-- sort of an attract mode, if you will. If the water tiles bother you, you’re going to have a difficult time with the game.
It really is that good.
It’s probably not for everyone, but if you enjoy at all the kind of play that it offers, you will probably like this game. Put simply, it only does a couple of things, but it does them very, very well.
FTA:
“[…] this is a game that’s all about collecting stories.”
I am consistently impressed by the writing, both of the individual vignettes and the overall world-building. It’s dark, moody surrealism, with occasional bits of absurdist humor. It’s a delightfully weird game.
If you’re the kind of person who (in RPGs) does all the side-quests as much to find out what happens (or maybe, more precisely, to find out what can happen) as to grind for loot and levels, then you might like this game.
ETA: just checked the GOG page, since you mentioned the discount. I’d say definitely get the Zubmarineer expansion, as well, for a grand total of $12. That’s not a bad deal, in my book. Cheaper than a movie ticket. Cheaper than a concert/ballpark beer.
Thank you. The whole thing is disorienting, especially that cursor.
Zubmariner is especially worth it in the summer. It just makes me feel chilled. I like to do a Skyrim run through about Thanksgiving, and I’m going to convince my husband to do a playthrough of Zubmariner when we get back from Boston & Providence next week.
Also, the latest Darkest Dungeon expansion hit PS4 recently and is on discount. Bought it last week. It’s a wave defense thing, which is different than the normal game but kind of fun. Not a lot of replay value, though. But worth it for $3.
A couple others:
1st edition Avernum 1-6. I’ve played 2nd edition 1-2. And definitely enjoyed them. Never tried 1st edition. Compatibility issues on the Mac.

Darklands, supposed to be set in early modern Germany, always interesting to see how they try to handle historical settings, though it is still a fantasy campaign:
Wizards Unite, the Harry Potter / Pokémon Go hybrid game dropped today for US players, a day earlier than expected.
I need one of these.
From what I heard at the time, Kojima began to hear that his work had been “tinkered” with. I’d argue there might have been a lack of appreciation for the needs of localization due to his not being bilingual, but he was not happy. As a result, all future Metal Gear games would be closely monitored for fidelity to the original Japanese script.
Oooh…
I don’t even have the first one…
When I was housebound and manic, I spent about a year doing nothing but playing Kerbal 24/7. There’s a whole solar system to explore.
