The man then left the store, and he was confronted outside by another man with a gun, who announced a robbery and demanded his rifle.
The man gave up the rifle, then went to his vehicle and grabbed another gun as the alleged robber was walking away. He fired at the robber, and a shootout between the two began.
The alleged robber was shot several times.
Two innocent bystanders, both women, had just pulled up to the market and were also shot. Their injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
The man who was robbed of his rifle fled the scene. Moments later, police believe a third man came and shot the alleged robber again, then left.
The man who took the rifle was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.
I guess the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a âgood guyâ with a gun who also has another gun stashed somewhere else, some other random passer-by with a gun, and with injuries to innocent bystanders. And a bad guy dumb enough to hang around after a robbery.
This was downtown, not too far from where my daughter works. We gather it was a group of young people that hang out down there and get into trouble late at night. Technically it was a mass shooting in that multiple people were injured, but I doubt it would have made the news except for the recent school shooting. It sounds like a bunch of people who just got into a free for all situationâŚnot like, dude with AR15 looking to blow the place up. Not that it wasnât terrible in its own way, but more of a disorganized shootout.
Thatâs one thing that sort of bothers me⌠All shootings are bad, of course, but I think that we need to differentiate on the mass shootings where a guy (usually a white guy) goes in and shoots up a school or grocery store, or house of worship, or whatever, vs. these sorts of shootings. Yes, BOTH are bad, and both need to be stopped, but these more systemic types of shootings need a different kind of intervention than the other kind.
I donât know. Itâs hard to get people to see the nuance on this issue. The gun issue is the core, but there are other things driving different kinds of shootings that need to be addressed in different ways, I think.
Glad you and your daughter are safe!
From the same county:
As a past and present stoner and past gun owner, I can say that part is total BS. As a standup comedian at open mic once said, âWhen people get drunk, they wanna go out and be loud and fight. When people get high, all they wanna do is stay home and order pizza!â
And yet Trump got his Muslim ban up without Congress doing a thing. Weird how that happens.
Yes, youâre right. There clearly is no difference between a Republican president enacting immigration restrictions on foreign countries with Republican control of the House and Senate and a Supreme Court weighted towards conservatives, and a Democratic one enacting regulations on second amendment rights across the entire country with tenuous control of the Senate and a Supreme Court weighted towards conservatives.
Even with all the advantages, it took multiple attempts and an arguably bad supreme court ruling to get some form of the âMuslim banâ to stick. How many days do you think it would take for gun control by executive order to be trashed? Especially considering that there is already a Supreme Court ruling that pretty much states that only Congress can do anything about it?
How many days do you think it would take for gun control by executive order to be trashed?
What did Trump do when the USSC ruled against his orders? He issued another order. And he kept doing it until the court gave up.
There are an ocean of things that a President can do to enforce his will. Executive actions are just one of them [1]. Biden is doing none of them.
.
[1] For example:
a) Notifying all Democratic donors that any of them that donate a cent to Cuellar, Manchin, Sinema, the GOP or the NRA will never see a bill passed in their favour.
b) Notifying all Democratic consultants that any of them that work for Cuellar, Manchin, Sinema, the GOP or the NRA will never again work for the Democratic party,
c) Launching federal investigations into the countless blatant crimes of Manchin and his family.
d) Going on TV every night and loudly bragging about all of the above and why heâs doing it.
e) Etc.
None of this is even unprecedented. Itâs supposedly Democratic party tradition. Half of it is Democratic party status quo in relation to the left.
until the court gave up
That is an extremely warped picture of the courtâs actions. And that you think the implementation of immigration policy has any relationship to gun regulation shows that you havenât seriously thought about the issues involved.
I am not arguing that Biden could get the current USSC to accept gun control. I am not arguing that gun control is in any way comparable to immigration.
I am arguing that Biden, and the Democratic party in general, are not using every tool at their disposal to pursue gun control. Theyâre barely touching any of them.
And I would suggest that this is because they do not actually give a shit about anything except maintaining their own wealth, status and power.
I am arguing that Biden, and the Democratic party in general, are not using every tool at their disposal
And youâre quite clearly comparing it to Trumpâs immigration policy implementation, which is so very different that itâs not even apples to oranges. Apples to elephants, maybe.
