My all time most favoritest tradition from way back in the 80s.
It’s not Christmas until Darlene Love and Paul Shaffer say it is.
And oh my gosh, I should look as good at 83 as Mrs. Love.

Cat and Girl on Christmas and nostalgia…
And not one, but two Donation Derby’s are Christmas themed…
Hygge, y’all.
I never knew I needed to hear hardcore in a church.
Sefa even did one of the bible readings.
This is the original
Excellent reminder that while many of us have the holiday off, some still need to werk it.

Midnight Mass at St. Francis D’ Assisi in Detroit. Also got warned about this neighborhood but it’s where I grew up.
It’s 122 years old, started out as a really Polish parish but it’s evolved into a Mexican/Polish parish now.
Mass is in English and Spanish. It’s really cool to see the old church change over the years.
I can always find an old guy that remembers the church as it was way back in the early 70s when my memories start.
My dad actually played that organ when he was a young man. I got to hear him play it many many years ago.
Merry Christmas
I like the take a number for confessions.
What a beautiful church!
My BFF lives on the east side, and she hipped me to St Albertus, who is also a massive, historically Polish church. It’s not far from the old Poletown neighborhood. Its style and accoutrements are a strange blend of Medieval, Victorian, Eastern and Western European, with some quite surreal elements. She’d often go to their Christmas midnight mass, even when the boiler was broken.
She took me and D along to a couple of great art and music festivals there, and gave us a pretty knowledgeable tour, explaining the parts we weren’t hip to.
Meet Christmas everyone hope you’re all having a nice time with loved ones
I’ve long been in the habit of finding and ahem posting 100-year-old postcards for Hallowe’en, Christmas, and New Year’s.
