I know  not the exact date, but i am at least aware that it happens earlier. Earlier in the thread i do specify American (US) Thanksgiving because: Canada.

Must be the right location – the Troy one was also on a corner.
A friend of ours had an apartment kitty-corner to it.

I think it had the same name too, with Market instead of Grocery. Maybe it was a chain.

“Ours,” in miniscule Oakland Twp, is a mom and pop joint.

They’re still in business, which makes me happy. They’d obvs been there for quite some time in 1976, when I 1st saw it.

With our kids on opposite coasts (Seattle and Arlington) these days, it’s just the two of us (plus three kitties), so we are making… reservations.

There’s a restaurant near us that does a Thanksgiving dinner meal - turkey, dressing, lots of veggies and other sides, dessert, etc. The price is reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes - last year, we brought enough home with us to have meals for several days afterwards. Good food, and much less to clean up.

I suspect I shall be dining on almond boneless chicken, veg fried rice, fried scallops, and an egg roll. Dunno what he’ll order.

He asked me what to get for Thanksgiving, so I told him to call and reserve a rotisserie turkey breast from Kroger, and that I’d cook a leg or two if he wanted. I also made a detailed, if not long, list of other stuff to get, like stuffing, french cut green beans and slivered almonds, baking potatoes, etc.

He’s not going to want to shop for the Thanksgiving stuff tomorrow, and I don’t blame him. Every store will be a madhouse that’s unpleasant to navigate, even w/a short list.

He never called in the order, and they V quickly sell out.

There have been similiar dinner-related scenes during our past Thanksgivings, Easters, and St Patrick’s Days together.

I’m this close to being done with holidays. He can just find a place that’s open and buy dinner. /shrugs It will save a lotta work, frustration, and annoyance.

We’ll choose between two places that have great shwarmas, Chinese, an Indian place, superb BBQ, the nearby coney joint…

I mentioned above that our daughter and husband have pneumonia so we’re dropping off Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.

They asked for a couple slices of apple pie. We normally use that pre-made Pillsbury pie crust but when my wife pulled the pie out of the oven she had a whoops because of arthritis.

We scooped it back in, that’s okay for us but it’s not going to slice well.

We were out of dough so I pulled out the stand mixer and whipped up some pie crust.

Instead of whole pies for slices we made a bunch of mini pies, of course I had to test one.

Those Red Solo bowls are perfect for transportation.

I just dry brined my turkey parts (a breast and two drum sticks) with sage, thyme, rosemary, a bit of paprika, and kosher salt so it’ll be ready to pop in the oven overnight. I also made my cranberry sauce - cranberries, zest of a couple of mandarin oranges, their juice and some pulp, clove, cinnamon, all-spice, cardamon, ginger, sugar, some orange juice and a bit of corn starch for thickening…

Sparky was a nameless chained-up guard dog who was ignored, then abandoned by his owner who’d moved and just left him there. He was saved from starvation and adopted by Doozy and her mom, and named Sparky. YAY!

Good deals aren’t just in stores on Black Friday.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is offering free entry to all 73 state parks and recreation areas on one of the biggest shopping days of the year, which this year falls on Nov. 29. There’s a state park within 30 miles of most residents, according to the organization’s website.

Vehicle permits to visit state parks are normally $7 for a day and $35 for a year. Proceeds go to maintaining and improving natural resources, facilities and educational programs. There are only four days per year in which park fees are waived. In 2025, fee-free dates are January 20, April 26, June 14 and Nov. 28.

Turkey is all dressed up with someplace to go.

The drumsticks and wings are in the pressure cooker for turkey and gravy sandwiches this weekend.
