Healthcare Deform

When I saw the headline beginning with “UnitedHealth CEO leaves abruptly…” my first thought was, “again?!”

Mama mia!

Hell, a good percentage of those while they were still infants…

Yes. I remember learning that lesson while walking through an old cemetery with my parents, and asking why there were so many small tombstones. With 1 or 2 year lifespans recorded on them.

Kennedy would probably argue that they didn’t even have jobs or write poems, so… :person_shrugging:

I have some relatives and older friends who are (or have) only children because they lost brothers or sisters (or multiple children), little kids are tough, except for their immune systems.

This is bullshit.

Just a reminder that living in rural areas of the country – as many MAGAts do – rather than defined municipal areas means well water rather than municipal water: no added fluoride, oftentimes too much or too little of many minerals (including things like lead and arsenic), and even bacteria.

Bad teeth are painful and expensive on their own, but it’s been proven that there’s a follow-on effect with heart problems too.

People will pay dearly for enabling this administration, at least some with their lives.

We’re not likely to hear more on Andrew’s departure but it’s fair to suggest the recent killing of his co-worker, the constant fear of his family’s and his safety

Fluoride toothpaste next. He does not really believe anyone has the right to disagree with his woo. I fear what will happen to vaccines if he is allowed to get away with this shit.

Kiddo turns 9 in early fall. Earliest we can get her the HPV vaccine :grimacing:
Edit: we were going to wait until 11. But not anymore

Promoting this very thing at my office. I usually hate hysteria, but this feels justified.

Go for it! Kidd Jr. got his at 9. Wasn’t going to wait until later, just in case. The Orange Bastard was president back then.

This is just infuriating. I will say, she should probably not be looking into an orthopedic surgery residency, but to say she just cannot be a doctor is insane. We all have limitations. Some are more visible than others, but we have a severe shortage of primary care physicians, and turning away a huge chunk of the population from even attempting is just plain wrong.

Imagine being a disabled child and seeing your doctor be a living example that they can grow up to do a lot more than they thought.

Those who say it cannot be done should get out of the way of the people who are doing it.

This makes me think about the recent biography I read about the revolutionary writer and psychiatrist Franz Fanon (taken from the world by cancer far too soon, fuck cancer), who was part of a wave of psychiatry in the postwar period that reconsidered the Freudian context of understanding mental health, reject that individualist nature of mental illness to focus on the context in which people exist in, and how that shapes their mental well-being… Fanon focused on how racism impacted Black people in white supremacist societies (France, the US, UK, etc)…

Are they taking away the medical license from doctors who become disabled after med school? No? Then they have no right to deny medical school to a disabled person.

Physical disabolities, certainly not. Although, as i mentioned in passing, there are fields where certain disabilities would be likely career-ending. But lots of states treat mental disabilities very differently. VA Board of Med just changed from a “shall suspend” to a “shall review” posture regarding docs who seek help for mental health issues, but a lot of hospitals will not grant privilage to anyone who “seeks treatment for any mental health disorder.” (Quoting from the privileges application at my local hospital.) Apparently, it’s not having an issue, it’s trying to get help for it that is verboten. Do i sound bitter? This particular issue sets me off in a big way. And is a large contributor to the stupidly high suicide rate in medical professionals.

There is a reason why The Pitt is framed by the lead Attending being gently talked off a literal ledge at the end of their shift.
