Healthcare PSAs and BSAs

Sort of. Just total disinhibition usually accompanied by dysphoria and “grump-as-hell-itis.” At least in kids. I had a colleague who did this. He became an intolerable asshole. YMMV.

I tried ondansetron with the nausea accompanying the isoniazid I was on recently. But it rarely worked and once it may have made me feel worse, with symptoms different from just the isoniazid. I didn’t take it after that.

“Based on data from the eight eligible studies from 2019 to 2023, the committee concludes that compared with never consuming alcohol, moderate alcohol consumption is associated with lower all-cause mortality,” the review states. The reviewers rated the conclusion as having “moderate certainty.”

Overall, the reviewers concluded that “consuming a moderate amount of alcohol was associated with a higher risk of breast cancer,” and the conclusion was rated as having moderate certainty.

Finally, for cardiovascular risks, meta-analyses found moderate drinking was associated with a 22 percent lower risk of heart attacks and an 11 percent lower risk of stroke (driven by lower risk of ischemic stroke, specifically). The reviewers rated these associations as low certainty, though, after noting that there was some concern for risk of bias in the studies.

Confusing? Hell yes! Welcome to my world. The human body is a Rube Goldberg-esque jury-rigged mess and trying to find the underlying logic is a fool’s errand. But we keep trying!

Are you telling me… that the human body is not some perfect thing created in the image of god that always functions correctly and only fucks up when people are sinful/lazy/stupid/etc/etc! /s

Or, what does that say about god?

One of several things: that he’s a careless creator, that he likes to watch train wrecks, or that we created him…

“will you even tells if you decide to make the sky fall down…”

Depends on the god, I guess

“When we looked at the mice after giving them zolpidem, we saw they all fell asleep very quickly. That was expected—we take zolpidem because it makes it easier for us to sleep,” Hauglund says. “But then we saw those slow fluctuations in norepinephrine, blood volume, and cerebrospinal fluid almost completely stopped.”
Hauglund speculates it could be possible zolpidem induces a state very similar to sleep but at the same time it shuts down important processes that happen during sleep. While heavy zolpidem use has been associated with increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease, it is not clear if this increased risk was there because the drug was inhibiting oscillatory norepinephrine release in the brain. To better understand this, Hauglund wants to get a closer look into how the glymphatic system works in humans.

So, yeah, more study needed, but at the risk of repeating myself, anything that has an effect has a side-effect. I don’t prescribe sleep aids any stronger than melatonin for my patients, and urge them to practice relaxation techniques instead of medicating. This study backs that practice up

Thanks for posting–good to know.
May explain much about specific issues re my insomniac dad’s behavior.

It’s 2025. As I survey this year’s prospect, I will be looking this up.

Oh ok:
“But wait, there’s more!”

I’m going on a trip at the end of February and am planning to get another Covid booster shortly. My last booster was Moderna- though I’ve had Pfizer as well. About 5 months ago.

I was wondering about the Novavax - would that provide broader protection by adding it to the rna vaccines I’ve already had?

To the best of my knowledge, that has never really been proven. It might make sense, but bodies rarely do that. No evidence that it hurts anything, though.

Thanks!!!

I can tell you that I and everyone else I’ve known who mixed them had a far less ill-feeling day or so with Novavax than with M or P.

Another thanks!

My booster, a few weeks ago.
Usually, I feel steamrollered by previous Pfizer and Moderna boosters. I scheduled those on a Friday and then would sleep through most of the aches and exhaustion all weekend.

The Novavax just made me a bit tired. Not even that sore.
Zero idea if efficacy or coverage windows differ from its mRNA-based cousins.
