Has there been a shift in English adverb positions in the recent past?

A lot of formal English writing drives me up the wall, with what seem, to me, like stranded adverbs scattered everywhere. From an article I’ve read, South Asian Englishes tent to put adverbs immediately before verbs, while Canadian and Jamaican Englishes tend to put them imediately after, while the remaining Englishes put different adverbs in different places. I definitely prefer to put them immediately before the verb, and between to and a following infinitive.
