In the Twin Cities it is hot, windy with scattered thinderstorms.
Now it’s cold and windy with scattered thunderstorms. And I’m waiting for the bus.
…and we know how much you looove busses…
anyway, hope the weather gets better and your travels go smoothly.
I’m fortunately using the one useful bus line in the Twin Cities — it actually starts someplace and goes someplace. The downside, however, is that it runs one every hour. So of you miss it, you’re out of luck.
This is good to hear. Heat pumps are highly controversial. I understand Satan heats Hell with a heat pump.
We’ve been without power since Tuesday night, about an hour outside Pittsburgh.
I’m so sorry to hear this. Take care of yourself and your loved ones! Where there’s one storm, there’s always more this time of year.
oh no! I’m sorry!
Thanks to you and @mindysan33. We’re fine…prepper life has us set for most of this, aside from the disappointing reality that we’ve been unable to afford a larger off-grid electrical system and our solar panels are only partially installed.
That means that we can work our well pumps but we lost all but one of our freezers and, more distressing, our incubators. This time of year, that means we’ve potentially lost up to 100 chickens, turkeys, guineas, and peafowl. And our emu chicks are still under heat, so we may lose them too. We put the partially incubated eggs and young, hatched chicks under our old matron birds but the hatch rate will be much lower and the young chicks may not be accepted. That means we’re looking at a losing chick season. Our birds also free range, so they’re kind of spoiled and most are unused to sitting eggs.
I’m posting mainly to draw attention to the fact that, while we’re used to losing power for a few hours at a time, the estimate from West Penn power is that we won’t be live until Monday. Almost a week without electric, less than an hour outside a large US city. I hope everyone is getting ready because this is becoming less isolated. And I need to invest in a better backup system.
Oh no! Poor chicks!
Yeah, the feds are not going to be stepping up to help, too, so that’ll make outcomes like this even more common…
I’m so sorry to hear about this.
My husband said exactly the same thing. We were one of the wealthiest countries and our now our electrical infrastructure is just shit.
I’m square in the middle of that orange asshole’s fan base and it’s amazing but unsurprising hearing my neighbors’ reactions. My socialist ass took the day to help one repair his roof and I had to shout him down when he started talking about how “those people” got help when Puerto Rico lost power during Maria but fema isn’t showing up for him. Dude…it’s been three days and you voted for the guy who made sure fema is circling the drain! I gave him the ultimatum of shutting up and having me stay to help shelter his kids or continuing to talk and letting him and his kids fend for themselves. We finished his roof and I left him with a lecture about the cost of his vote. And it looks like we’ve got another storm coming tonight.
Good on you for helping that self-centered asshole. And good on you for giving him a lecture he needs to hear…
Oh no! Stay safe!
Bravo! You dumped a lotta karma doing that!
It’s even an “Upper Level Pattern!”
And here, we get Bra strap conditions…
and all we get way down here is boob sweat.
literally.
