How's the Weather?

Our air quality alert was expected to last thru Friday and Saturday, but it’s been extended to last thru Tuesday.

Edited to change “expanded” to “extended,” which is much better writing

I’ll bottle up some sweet Oregon fresh air and ship it to ya.

The weirdest part of the floods was how hyperlocalized they were!

For one storm, my son, on the northside, got around an inch of rain in the total storm. Us in the burbs, at one time forecast for as much as two, got maybe a quarter inch.

And yet some places got over 7 inches in 90 minutes. Chicago weather: Downpours dump 7 inches on parts of Chicago area | FOX 32 Chicago

And then just a few weeks earlier, a nearby area got another wave, nearly as big.

I mean, it’s pretty clear that Chicago is moving to a warmer space. Winters have been warmer almost every year for the past 10 and our summers are hotter as well.

Heat returns
There’s good news in Thursday’s papers for fans of warm weather: summer-like temperatures are expected to make a comeback in the second half of next week.

Hot weather is set to return to southern and central parts of Finland next week. This fall is also expected to be warmer than usual, reports Iltalehti.

The tabloid cites the latest long-range forecast from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), which is expecting temperatures in Finland between September and November to be 1–2 degrees Celsius above average.

At least now it’s nice August weather about 20°C (68°F).

It’s hot (9pm, 86F/30C, dewpoint 76F/24C, heat index 96F/36C)…
It’s getting toward late summer…
It’s nighttime…
It’s noisy out there!

Cicadas, I believe. Sounds like sleigh bells on speed.

You must be a lot younger than I: I never experienced weather like this in Detroit when I was little.

We lived in the suburbs and didn’t have AC. The daytime temp never decreased at night due to the humidity. I can remember lying in bed on top of the covers, sweating, and just making sure that no part of my body touched any other part or it would become all heat rash. It might have only been 85 degrees, but it was 85 degrees and muggy 24 hours a day.

UGH

Mom finally broke down and bought our first ac unit when I was in jr high. It went in her window, and she’d naturally close her door. I had to have a fan blowing on me if I was going to get any sleep; when it was bad, I’d take my ass out to the living room, open all the windows I could, and have the fan on me. When it was unbearable, I’d sleep in mom’s room.

I think we were less than a mile from Lake St Clair, and it was often humid AF.

I may be mistaken, but I don’t remember 85F all day & night. Christ, that’s miserable.

Currently 91F, feeling like 100F, in my little corner of the Great White North. Gonna be like this for a while yet. At least there’s no nearby fires. For the first time in 5 years I’m considering getting an A/C unit.

This shit is insane.

77% humidity. Pure evil.

It rained and thunderboomied around 5:30 this evening. Made it even hotter and even more humid.

The other day, D asked, “When TF did I move to Cambodia?!” b/c so hot & humid. I replied, “Laos. This weather is Laos-y.”

{He makes terrible puns alla time, so I gleefully give him summa my own.}
