ICE capades - travails of the detained

In an internal letter to staff, sent Thursday, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital CEO and President Steve Davis addressed the detention of Imam Ayman Soliman earlier this month, informing staff that the hospital does not “publicly comment on personnel or legal matters.” He also reminded employees of the hospital’s expectation that staff “live our values and follow our policies, every day and in every interaction” despite the “divisiveness outside of our walls.”

“As a Nonprofit Charitable Organization, Cincinnati Children’s has strict rules it must follow when engaging in activities that could be characterized as political,” the letter reads. “Our organization is politically agnostic, not favoring one party over the other; we advocate for policies that improve pediatric health.”

Because you damn well know that Trump’s IRS will be favoring one particular party over the other.

I’ve heard the 100 mile Border Enforcement Zone includes any customs entry point e.g. international airports. Is that true (with links)? Apologies if we’ve been over this before.

And now overlay this map with another map showing population density.

Another officer says, “They’re starting to resist more now,” to which an officer replies: “We’re going to end up shooting some of them.”

Especially if this means a higher bonus.

I’ve seen that said a lot, but it seems that the 100 mile zone is just physical borders (including sea borders). Airports are themselves entry points (and thus travelers there are subject to the same rules as when crossing the physical border), but aren’t considered “borders” for the purposes of the 100 mile rule. It’s bad enough that 2/3 of the population are within 100 miles of the physical borders, adding in 100 miles around every international airport would probably raise it to something like 99% of the population

I know that the Trump administration is fine with the ambiguity of ICE agents being indistinguishable from other masked criminals, and are waiting for someone to act violently in self-defense as justification for mass crackdowns and potentially even martial law, but I always assumed that ICE agents themselves wouldn’t be cool with the heightened risk of violence they face because of that. But now it seems pretty clear that they’re downright excited about the possibility of facing violence, because that also gives them the excuse to just go completely wild - even more than they’re already going.

Not that DHS are credible in any way, shape or form, but this story didn’t make a lot of sense to begin with, and is getting weirder and weirder. It would be deeply disappointing if the family were running some sort of scam to raise money (and very weird - how would anyone think they could get away with something like that?), given DHS are doing similar things (and lying about it), and this just muddies the waters.

At first I thought it was just another absurd story. But it very strange indeed. It seems like a story made in a Chan just to seed confusion and discredit all the real stories of abusive ICE procedures.

A detail to keep in mind: domestic airports within the 100 mile border zone are “within a reasonable distance from any external boundary of the United States” just as well.
Say “hi” to the friendly CBP agents who can board vehicles and vessels and search for people without immigration documentation without a warrant.
Not that this really matters anymore since ICE has started abducting random people everywhere.
It’s somewhat incorrect to equate ICE with the Gestapo, though. The Gestapo always showed their badges and kept meticulous records.

The Coast Guard too, and they’re not entirely clear on just where the borders are.

Normal year: “why would ICE be at Comic Con?”
This year: Ice are crashing youth baseball games to interrogate children

On top of random abductions, ICE are throwing up roadblocks on busy thoroughfare streets in LA and other cities to set up checkpoints, to terrorize and demoralize and entire population, including citizens, who have to deal with this shit. Setting up in airports would be the least of it.

And hiring is just getting laxer. Lovely.

Well, that is instructional. This is exactly my plan for what to do should they show up at my office. Good to know “show me a badge and a warrant” constitutes assault. We cannot be passive in this. I don’t plan on looking for trouble, but if it finds me, well, here i am.
