The cool stuff I stumble across in my high meanderings:
Hopefully it’s alright to link entire albums here, but this album sounds just as vital all these years later:
Highlights include I’ve Been Out Walking, Odd Said the Doe and Our Discussion.
Inspired by the thread over here:
I’m inclined to let the IAU do their thing. Science is all about changing our understanding of the natural world, so I’m not too sentimental about whether or not we call Pluto a planet, per se.
OTOH, these J’s make a compelling counter-argument:
“Video unavailable.” I guess the counter-argument wasn’t compelling enough.
Region locked, maybe? It still plays for me, but I’m in the U.S.
Anyway the song is “Pluto” by 2 Skinnee J’s. They favor planet status for Pluto, most likely because it supports their particular narrative metaphor more than for any sound scientific reasoning, but they are quite emphatic.
I started to post a link to the lyrics, but they’re frankly kind of dumb when read out of context. They’re not necessarily a great band, but they are a fun listen. I have a bit of a critical soft spot for them because I was once immensely entertained by one of their live shows. I don’t know how else to describe it other than as a spectacle, but of the very best kind – over the top, but not overdone, if you will.
This brightened my day:
I didn’t know Ray Manzarek plays keyboards for “Craigslist.”
And I believe Al is operating the camera.
Some days the Internet is OK.
Remember back to Purple Rain (The Movie). There’s a club scene with a snippet of a song playing. Wasn’t a Prince song (AFAIK), but had that “Minneapolis Sound”.
The only lyrics I could remember was something along the lines of “I Want to be a M < something > aire”.
The Great GooglyMoogly Machine was able to find … Dez Dickerson - Modernaire…
That club was First Avenue - a former Greyhound bus station. This fine man (IIRC) was part of Prince’s “Revolution” band. Eventually, Prince was able to purchase First Avenue. It remains my favorite place, ever, to see a concert. It’s not a large venue, and there are no seats, thus, the whole place is General Admission. Additionally, the stage is only about 5’ off the floor, so you can really get close to the band. Ahhhhh, so many memories…
Back in the '60s and '70s, my generation used to claim that Clapton was God. Blasphemous, no doubt. Also inaccurate. God was a Ukrainian Jewish Commie atheist of my Grandfather’s generation. Gilels was God.
Or maybe one of these guys was God (if God isn’t a collective)…
Let’s get some appropriate seasonal music in here:
