From fiction, I have a great admiration for Mey-Rin from Black Butler.
In the real world, I have awe for the Soviet Night Witches,
Lyudmila Pavlichenko, and U.S. Army Sgt. Maciel Hay, the first active-duty woman to become a sniper in the United States Army, in 2024. We always have been a little slow to catch up with the rest of the world on these things.
The first two are chosen specifically because they were fighting Nazis, of course. I wish I could find much about individual Night Witches (many names are known, but it’s hard to get deep details about members of a group and keep focus.) I quite enjoy Lyudmila’s history if for no other reason than she was very firm about her passion for killing fascists!
Speaking (through a translator) to US interviewers who were asking the most inane and sexist questions you can imagine, she said: “Gentlemen, I am 25 years old and I have killed 309 fascist invaders by now. Don’t you think, gentlemen, that you have been hiding behind my back for too long?”
