Here’s a thread to recommend sites, podcasts, etc. that help us understand the variety of Leftist philosophies and viewpoints.
I’ll start this out with a few fairly obvious choices, but I’m going to have to dig pretty deep into my various bookmarks and Twitch channels to find more. (Some of the Twitch channels I’ve learned from don’t do much politics any more, and others are, shall we say, acquired tastes that would require significant caveats/warnings before entering-- let’s just say, they don’t conduct themselves by the old BBS Guidelines.)
Some starting points:
Philosophy Tube: Abby does a great job of explaining the thought processes behind Leftist philosophies, especially in some of her earlier videos. She was my entry into BreadTube, and she’s worth checking out.
Thought Slime: I’m not sure I always agree completely with Mildred, but the channel’s good food for thought.
Andrewism: this is a terrific channel for anarchist philosophy, though sometimes it makes my head spin with how deep into it he gets.
We don’t have to limit this to videos and streams; it’s open to sites with written material as well, memes, podcasts, anything that can help those of us who are still learning to understand what we’re getting into…
I have a hard time with videos, I can watch them, but prefer audio specific content when I can get it, or articles to read. Or, ironically, videos that can be watched with no sound. I guess I’m limited on my input channels, I can’t gang them up anymore. Maybe it’s aging, maybe it’s just my brain.
I mention this, in case others have podcast or article suggestions on theme, because my trouble with sensory overload is getting worse.
Some months ago this seemed relevant, then it didn’t, and now it does again:
Even if one isn’t protesting, that doesn’t mean this information won’t come in handy, given how indiscriminate the use of riot munitions is already, and how many bystanders get impacted:
Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army for the win:
It’s a core CIRCA premise that mocking and utterly confusing the enemy can be more powerful than direct confrontation. In one instance, a seventy-person-strong gaggle of clowns walked straight through a line of UK riot cops who, strangely, could not hold their line. When the video footage of the event was examined, it turned out that beneath their visors the cops were laughing too much to be able to concentrate. Other clowns filled their pockets with so much strange junk that it took hours and lots of paperwork when stop-and-searches occurred. A favorite tactic was to walk into army recruitment agencies and, in a clownish way, try to join up, thus causing so much chaos that the agencies had to close down for the day, and then CIRCA would set up its own shabby recruitment stall outside.
